GOOGL stock has pulled back roughly 18% from its May peak and is trading around $330, but Thursday brought a modest lift after a new partnership with Morgan State University was announced.
Google Public Sector is teaming up with Morgan State University to build an AI-driven research campus. Under the deal, Morgan State will get access to high-end GPU compute power through Google’s Program for Accelerated Research.
The infrastructure will run on Google Cloud platforms and Nvidia hardware. The university plans to use it to speed up work on large language models, cyber tools, and climate forecasting.
One of the more practical use cases in the announcement involves using AI to improve traffic flow and urban mobility in Baltimore. That work will be run through Morgan State’s in-house Obsidian AI platform.
Timothy C. Summers, vice president of Morgan State’s Division of Information Technology, said the deal is about more than adding technology. He said the school wants to build the frameworks needed to use AI responsibly and effectively.
AI Talent Pipeline
The partnership includes setting up a Google-focused Center of Excellence at Morgan State. Students will get access to Google training programs and career pathways, while faculty can use Google for Startups to bring research to market.
Google Cloud security tools, including Google SecOps and Mandiant, will also be added to help research that falls under strict federal compliance requirements.
For Google, the deal creates a pipeline of new workers trained on its platforms. With demand for AI-skilled employees still high, that’s a practical benefit alongside the research angle.
GOOGL Stock Under Pressure
The broader story around Alphabet stock is one of investor uncertainty. The company has earmarked roughly $200 billion in capital spending for 2026, most of it going toward AI infrastructure. That number has made some investors nervous about returns.
Despite that, Google Cloud posted revenue growth of 81% year over year last quarter, with operating income more than tripling. That’s a number that stands out even against strong competition.
Alphabet’s in-house Tensor Processing Units and a range of purpose-built AI software packages give it a technical edge that analysts say few rivals can match fully.
The stock is currently trading around $330, sitting near multiweek lows and within range of where it was in July.
Wall Street View
Wall Street remains broadly positive on GOOGL. The current consensus is a Strong Buy, based on 24 Buy ratings and four Hold ratings over the past three months.
The average price target sits at $426.04, which would represent upside of around 29% from current levels.
The Morgan State announcement adds to a broader picture of Google expanding its reach in the AI research and education space.
