- Cypherpunk currently holds 323,394 ZEC, about 1.92% of circulating supply, with a 5% target
- ZEC is up more than 1,300% over the past 12 months despite recent corrections

Cypherpunk Technologies has launched what it calls the world’s largest Zcash mining operation, funded through a $33.33 million equity deal with Winklevoss Capital, the venture firm run by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.

The Nasdaq-listed company, which trades under the ticker CYPH, announced the deal on Tuesday. The mining fleet is already live across facilities in the United States.
The operation runs at roughly 4.2 GSol/s of Equihash hashrate. That puts Cypherpunk in control of around 18% of the entire Zcash network’s current hashrate.
Winklevoss Capital funded the mining rigs through an equity-based transaction. The deal also brings in Kevin Zhang, a veteran of the mining industry, as head of mining at Cypherpunk.
The company says its mining affiliate now has access to an addressable market worth more than $250 million per year at current ZEC prices.
Cypherpunk Eyes 5% of ZEC Supply
Cypherpunk currently holds 323,394 ZEC, which equals about 1.92% of the cryptocurrency’s circulating supply. The company has set a target of eventually owning 5% of ZEC’s total supply.
Mining income is expected to help fund that goal. According to Chief Investment Officer Will McEvoy, the ZEC flow from mining gives the company flexibility to acquire more ZEC and invest in privacy-preserving technology.
Cypherpunk has pitched Zcash mining as more attractive than Bitcoin mining or AI data center work at current market conditions. Those economics still depend on ZEC’s price, mining difficulty, and operating costs.
ZEC is up more than 1,300% over the past 12 months, driven partly by renewed interest in privacy-focused cryptocurrencies in the second half of 2025.
Ironwood Upgrade Followed a Security Scare
Earlier this year, a researcher at Shielded Labs found a vulnerability in Zcash’s Orchard shielded pool. The flaw involved a zero-knowledge circuit that could have let an attacker create counterfeit ZEC without being detected.
There was no evidence the flaw was ever exploited. But the discovery caused ZEC to drop more than 50%, and Cypherpunk’s stock fell around 40% at the same time.
Developers issued an emergency patch in early June. In July, the Zcash network deployed the Ironwood upgrade, which replaced the Orchard pool with a new shielded transaction protocol.
Cypherpunk said its growing hashrate also strengthens the Zcash network itself. A more secure network, the company argued, makes its own ZEC treasury more valuable.
The company now offers investors exposure to both Zcash treasury holdings and active mining operations.
