World, the identity solution backed by Sam Altman, is making a significant leap in AI identity verification with the launch of AgentKit. Announced on March 17, 2026, AgentKit is a developer toolkit that integrates World’s human verification system, World ID, with Coinbase’s x402 protocol.
This partnership enables AI bots to prove they are backed by a real human, fostering trust and legitimacy for platforms interacting with autonomous agents.
The toolkit is designed to address the rapidly growing agentic commerce sector, where AI bots are becoming more common in tasks ranging from shopping to managing emails. The key challenge in this space is identity verification. Traditional systems often flag AI bot activity as suspicious. World’s AgentKit aims to change this by giving AI bots cryptographic proof that they are linked to a verified human identity.
Integrating World ID with Coinbase’s x402 Protocol
The core of AgentKit is the integration of World ID with the x402 protocol, developed by Coinbase. The x402 protocol allows for “agentic payments,” facilitating micropayments between AI bots and platforms using stablecoins. While payments answer the “how” in agentic commerce, identity addresses the “who.”
Erik Reppel, head of engineering at Coinbase Developer Platform, emphasized the importance of this development, stating,
“This is a massive step toward a web where agents aren’t just seen as automated traffic, but as legitimate economic participants.”
By verifying that AI bots are operated by real humans, platforms can better trust and interact with autonomous agents, moving beyond simply blocking them.

With AgentKit, developers can delegate a World ID to their AI agents. Consequently, this means that the AI bots are backed by real, verified humans while maintaining the privacy of personal data. World’s system uses zero-knowledge proofs, ensuring platforms can verify identities without accessing personal information, which is crucial for scaling identity in an AI-driven web.
Overcoming Challenges in Agentic Commerce
As AI agents take on more tasks in commerce, such as booking services and making purchases, the issue of identity verification becomes more pressing. Without proof that a human is behind the transaction, many platforms treat automated activity as potential fraud.
AgentKit, as a result, solves this by enabling platforms to link multiple AI agents to a single verified human. This ensures that companies can still impose limits based on the underlying human identity, such as restricting the number of actions an agent can take in a given period. This system prevents abuse while allowing legitimate use of multiple agents.
Additionally, AgentKit’s reliance on Orb-based biometric verification is just the beginning. World plans to expand its verification options to include NFC-enabled passports and IDs, making the system more accessible to a broader range of users and developers.
