Standard Chartered’s venture arm, SC Ventures, has officially taken a significant step further into the digital asset space after becoming the first external investor in crypto trading firm GSR. The deal, announced in Singapore on May 5, signals a continued shift by the banking giant toward blockchain-based financial infrastructure and institutional crypto services.
The investment places SC Ventures not just as a partner but as an equity stakeholder in GSR’s evolving business model. While the two firms have previously collaborated, this marks the first time outside capital has been injected into GSR by a financial institution linked to Standard Chartered.
