CZ co-founded Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange. Forbes estimates his net worth at around $110 billion, making him one of the top 20 wealthiest people on the planet.
His legal troubles started after a years-long Justice Department investigation. He was charged with running a financial platform without proper anti-money laundering controls.
CZ pleaded guilty in November 2023 and stepped down as Binance CEO. He served four months in federal prison and was released in September 2024.
On October 23, 2025, President Trump signed a full pardon for CZ. The White House described the original prosecution as a Biden administration “war on cryptocurrency.”
CZ said he has not yet had the chance to thank Trump in person, but hopes to do so.
Life After Prison
Speaking on the Power Players podcast, CZ described the psychological weight of going to prison as harder than the physical experience.
“Many of the major news outlets reported I was going to be the richest person to ever go to US prison,” he said. “My lawyers told me I was probably a primary target for extortion.”
He said it took several weeks after his release to recalibrate and look ahead.
CZ says he is now focused on three things: investing in founders working on world-changing technology, advising governments on crypto regulation, and building his free education platform Gig Academy.
Gig Academy now has 500,000 registered students, up from 100,000 just six months ago.
CZ on Crypto and AI
On the crypto market, CZ said he views Bitcoin at $60,000 as low compared to where it has been and where he expects it to go.
“Last winter it was $16,000,” he said. “We just need more applications, more use cases.”
He also argued that the current surge in AI investment is good for crypto, not a threat to it.
CZ said a growing number of investors are using crypto to gain exposure to AI-related projects, boosting trading volumes and market liquidity.
He predicted that within months, AI agents could be handling payments and transactions autonomously using cryptocurrency.
CZ drew a parallel to the internet, saying blockchain will not be replaced by AI, just as the web was not replaced by blockchain.
He believes capital flowing into AI will eventually cycle back into blockchain networks, integrating the two technologies over time.
CZ said he expects both sectors to face regulatory and technical hurdles, but remains focused on long-term development.
