Coinbase plans to expand its financial platform in Canada beyond cryptocurrency trading. The company will introduce its Everything Exchange strategy with tokenized stocks and additional financial products. Meanwhile, Coinbase continues working with Canadian regulators before confirming a launch timeline.
Coinbase expands its financial platform in Canada
Coinbase aims to give Canadian users access to multiple financial products through one platform. The company wants customers to manage crypto, traditional assets, and blockchain-based services together. Consequently, the strategy extends Coinbase beyond its original role as a crypto exchange.
The Canadian rollout follows the platform’s broader Everything Exchange initiative introduced in the United States. That platform combines cryptocurrency trading with stocks, exchange-traded funds, derivatives, and prediction markets. The company plans to support continuous access through blockchain infrastructure.
According to the recent statement , Coinbase Canada chief executive Eric Richmond said the business has entered its second growth phase. The company now focuses on creating a unified financial experience for Canadian customers. Meanwhile, discussions with regulators continue before the platform reaches the local market.
Tokenized stocks and stablecoins support broader services
Coinbase expects to launch tokenized stocks for customers outside the United States later this month. The assets will represent direct ownership backed one-for-one by underlying shares. Holders will receive dividend payments and shareholder voting rights.
The company said tokenized equities should function like traditional shares while improving accessibility. Brokers or dealers can tokenize existing shares without requiring issuers to create blockchain-native stock. Some companies have expressed interest in issuing tokenized versions of their own shares.
The tokenized equity initiative builds on announcements made during Coinbase’s System Update event in June. The company also introduced an SEC-registered AI investment adviser and trading agents. Furthermore, it revealed plans covering stock options, prediction markets, pre-IPO products, and tokenized equities.
Stablecoin regulation and international expansion shape strategy
Coinbase continues supporting USD Coin while waiting for a compliant Canadian dollar stablecoin. Current Canadian stablecoins have not satisfied regulatory listing standards required by local authorities. Therefore, broader payment products remain tied to future regulatory developments.
The company believes stablecoin legislation could classify digital Canadian dollars as payment instruments instead of investments. Such rules could improve confidence and support wider adoption across payment services. Blockchain settlement could reduce transfer costs and processing times for cross-border transactions.
Richmond pointed to about $1.8 trillion in stablecoin transaction volume during June. That figure represented a 125% increase from the same month last year. Coinbase continues expanding internationally after securing authorization under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets framework through Luxembourg, allowing regulated services across the bloc while also simplifying identity verification requirements for mainland Chinese users.
