TLDR
- Rumors suggest Apple may raise iPhone 17 prices as soon as August 10, 2026
- The potential hike follows earlier price increases on Mac, iPad, Apple TV, Vision Pro, and HomePod
- A Weibo source cited a “memory chip crisis” as the driver, with Apple CEO Tim Cook previously calling it a “hundred-year flood”
- Apple has reportedly also cancelled plans to boost production capacity by 15% to 30%
- AAPL currently trades at $313.33, which GuruFocus flags as 11.2% overvalued vs. its GF Value of $281.88
Apple may be about to raise the price of the iPhone 17, possibly as early as Monday, August 10. That’s according to a post from Weibo user Fixed Focus Digital, who said “rumor has it that iPhone 17 will raise prices on August 10,” though they stopped short of confirming it.
AAPL stock trades at $313.33 as of the latest data.
The iPhone had been one of the few Apple products left untouched after a wave of price increases earlier this year. The Mac, iPad, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro, and HomePod all saw hikes, but the iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch were left alone.
That may be about to change.
Apple CEO Tim Cook had already flagged that price increases were coming, blaming a sharp rise in memory chip costs. He described the situation as a rare “hundred-year flood” in memory chip pricing.
Questions Around Which Models Get Hit
It’s not yet clear which iPhone 17 models would be affected. The full lineup includes the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Plus, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the iPhone 17 Air.
If the iPhone 17 Pro rises from $1,099 to $1,199, that would match the scale of increases seen on other Apple products. The base iPhone 17, currently priced at $799, could potentially move to $899.
The iPhone 16 series is also still on sale, and it’s unclear whether those prices would change too.
Production Capacity Plans Also Scrapped
Alongside the pricing rumors, Apple reportedly cancelled plans to increase production capacity by 15% to 30%. The specific components affected have not been confirmed.
The timing raises questions about iPhone 18 Pro pricing later this year. If iPhone 17 prices rise now, any further increases with the 18 Pro launch in September could push flagship iPhone pricing into new territory.
Each September, Apple typically pulls its Pro models from sale when new ones are announced, while older non-Pro models drop in price. Last year, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus each fell by $100, landing at $699 and $799.
It’s worth noting the base iPhone 18 is not expected until spring 2027.
On the valuation side, GuruFocus puts AAPL’s GF Value at $281.88, making the current price of $313.33 about 11.2% above that estimate. The stock’s P/E ratio sits at 35.93x, above its five-year median of 30.6x.
Insider activity over the past three months shows $16 million in selling with no reported buying.
AAPL holds a GF Score of 96/100, with perfect 10/10 scores for profitability and growth.
