- Revenue hit a record $234 million, up 62% year-over-year, beating estimates
- Q3 GAAP gross margin guidance of 29%–31% came in well below the Street’s ~37.6% estimate

- Record backlog of $2.36 billion and a $397 million Space Force contract are bright spots
Rocket Lab stock dropped 9% in pre-market trading on Tuesday after its Q2 2026 earnings report left the market cold on profitability.
The company posted record revenue of $234 million for the quarter, up 62% year-over-year and just ahead of the $232 million analyst consensus. But that wasn’t enough to hold the stock up.
The adjusted loss per share came in at $0.08, missing expectations. More damaging was the Q3 GAAP gross margin guidance of 29%–31%, well short of the Street’s estimate of around 37.6%.

The stock had already run roughly 27% in the week leading up to the print. That setup made it vulnerable when the numbers disappointed on profitability.
The margin pressure is being tied to a shift in business mix. Lower-margin satellite platform sales made up a larger share of Space Systems revenue in the quarter.
Non-GAAP gross margin came in at 41.5% for Q2, topping the 38% analysts had expected. But the forward guide overshadowed that beat.
Q3 Outlook and the Iridium Overhang
Management guided Q3 revenue between $250 million and $265 million, well above the $235.9 million consensus. But the gross margin step-down was the headline that moved the stock.
Non-GAAP gross margin for Q3 is expected between 35% and 37%, down from 41.5%. Adjusted EBITDA loss is projected between $17 million and $23 million.
The pending $8 billion Iridium acquisition is adding another layer of uncertainty. Around 41 million preferred shares are embedded in Q3 guidance, raising dilution concerns among investors.
The selloff extended from after-hours Monday into Tuesday’s pre-market. The broader market gave no cover, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq both essentially flat on the day.
Contracts and Backlog Stay Strong
Rocket Lab finished the quarter with a record backlog of $2.36 billion. That includes more than 90 missions in its launch pipeline.
Last week, the company announced a $397 million U.S. Space Force contract covering development and launch of Flatellite spacecraft aboard the Neutron rocket.
Neutron’s Stage 1 tank production remains on track for delivery to the launch pad in Q4. That milestone is a key part of the company’s longer-term growth story.
Rocket Lab also completed its Mynaric and Motiv acquisitions earlier this year, adding technologies to its spacecraft and space systems portfolio.
The stock carries a Strong Buy consensus rating from analysts, with 13 Buys and 4 Holds over the past three months. The average price target is $110.53, implying around 38% upside from Monday’s close.
