TLDR
- SOL is trading around $78, recovering ~5% from its July 18 low
- Price must close above $80 to confirm a breakout toward $82–$84
- Short liquidation clusters near $79–$80 could trigger a short squeeze
- The BONK governance attack drained $20M from BonkDAO treasury, denting ecosystem confidence
- A drop below $75.55 would expose SOL to $72.50 and the June floor near $67
Solana is trading at $78.03, recovering about 5% from its July 18 low after buyers held support near $74. The token has been moving between $77.42 and $78.88 intraday, and still sits below the $82–$84 zone it reached earlier in July.

The $80 level is the key line in the sand. A daily close above it would open the door to the July swing highs between $82.50 and $84. Above that, $90 and the prior range high near $97.60 come into view.
On the 4-hour chart, SOL trades above all four key moving averages — at $75.55, $76.42, $77.01 and $77.60. That puts short-term control with buyers. The MACD remains above its signal line, though momentum has narrowed.
Crypto analyst Michaël van de Poppe weighed in on X, stating that SOL is “holding the range low” and that it’s “just a matter of time” before it accelerates toward $120. He remains firmly in the bull camp despite the recent chop.
The path of $SOL remains the same.
It's holding the range low and, to me, it's just a matter of time until this starts to accelerate towards $120. pic.twitter.com/hv6rVMtkxl

Short Squeeze Setup Developing
CoinGlass liquidation data shows heavy short positions clustered near $78.50, $79.20 and $80.60. A push through $79 could force those leveraged short sellers to close, adding a wave of buy orders and potentially fast-tracking a move to $81.

The Chaikin Money Flow sits slightly below zero at -0.02, meaning capital inflows haven’t fully matched the price recovery yet. Confirmation will need stronger buying volume.
Trader Daan Crypto Trades put it plainly: SOL is at a “key high timeframe region.” Either bulls push through and target the $90s, or price rejects and drifts back to the mid-$60s.
BONK Governance Attack Weighs on Sentiment
Sentiment took a hit after an attacker drained nearly $20 million from the BonkDAO treasury. The attacker spent around $4.4 million to acquire enough BONK tokens to hit the governance threshold, then passed a proposal with 99.9% approval. Solana’s base layer was not affected, but the incident highlighted weak safeguards in a major ecosystem project.
On the macro side, Brent crude hit $91.01 following U.S.-Iran tensions, pushing the dollar index to 101.16. A stronger dollar typically reduces appetite for speculative assets like SOL.
U.S. spot Solana ETFs recorded $8.36 million in net inflows on July 6 — their strongest single day in nearly two months — with no daily outflows reported across the full week.
If $75.55 breaks to the downside, $72.50 and the June range floor near $67 become the next targets.
