Schroders is bringing its emerging markets bond strategy to the Solana blockchain through a partnership with Centrifuge. The London-based firm, founded over 200 years ago, managed $1.1 trillion as of June and is entering Solana for the first time.
Investors will hold blockchain-based shares linked to government and corporate bonds from developing economies. Schroders announced it on November 4.
Schroders Partners With Centrifuge on Solana
Centrifuge will issue and manage the tokenized shares. Investors will hold shares in the Schroders International Selection Fund Emerging Market Bonds feeder fund, not directly in the underlying bond portfolio.
The feeder fund invests in Schroders’ Emerging Market Bond Fund. The arrangement keeps the portfolio separate from tokenized shares.
The launch comes as Solana’s tokenized real-world assets reached $5.12 billion in November, according to RWA.xyz data.
Emerging Markets Debt Expands Tokenized Offerings
The strategy buys bonds issued by companies and governments across emerging markets. Returns depend on interest rates, borrower finances, and local currencies.
Schroders has managed emerging markets debt for more than five decades. More than 40 investment professionals work on the asset class.
Separately, Securitize added 13 tokenized stocks on Solana on November 2. Its lineup now includes 25 U.S. stocks, with each token backed by a share held in custody.
Schroders Builds on Earlier Fund Approval
The Solana project follows Schroders’ earlier work with digital funds. In August, the company secured approval in Ireland for a tokenized share class of its U.S. dollar money market fund, called Schroders Onchain Active Returns.
Unlike money market funds, emerging markets bond funds carry exposure to corporate and sovereign borrowers across different countries. Their values can change with credit conditions and exchange rates.
Other Institutions Expand Blockchain Services
Centrifuge also works with New York Life Investment Management, which has brought a high-yield corporate bond strategy onto Solana. That offering accepts USDC subscriptions from eligible investors.
Federated Hermes also announced plans in October to issue its first tokenized fund shares in early 2027. It manages about $911 billion.
Meanwhile, DTCC launched a tokenization service for securities in October. JPMorgan, Citi, and Fidelity are among the firms that signed agreements to use it. Centrifuge lists the Schroders product with a $100,000 minimum investment. Its platform identifies the offering as an emerging markets bond fund.
