TLDR
- Ripple and Robinhood plan to introduce RLUSD to retail users before the end of 2026.
- Robinhood reported 28.6 million funded customers, but RLUSD eligibility remains undisclosed.
- USDG remains part of Robinhood Earn despite the planned addition of Ripple’s stablecoin.
- Bitstamp will use RLUSD on the XRP Ledger for institutional transaction settlement.
- Ripple Treasury will support Robinhood’s cash management, payments, and financial forecasting.
Ripple and Robinhood announced plans on October 27 to bring Ripple USD (RLUSD) to the brokerage’s main app before the end of 2026. The deal also covers institutional trading, payment settlement, and Robinhood’s financial operations.
Robinhood reported 28.6 million funded customers at the end of August. RLUSD already operates on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp, but the companies have not disclosed which apps customers will qualify for or given a firm launch date.
Ripple and Robinhood Add Another Stablecoin
Robinhood helped launch the Global Dollar Network in 2024 to support USDG, a dollar-backed token issued by Paxos. USDG remains the lending asset for Robinhood Earn, which lets eligible users lend tokens through a blockchain-based service.
Robinhood announced no changes to its USDG arrangements. The firm has not explained whether both tokens will appear in the same products. The deal follows a third-quarter earnings preview published before Robinhood’s scheduled October 27 results.
Bitstamp Expands Institutional Services
Bitstamp, which Robinhood bought for about $200 million in June 2025, will use RLUSD on the XRP Ledger to settle institutional transactions. The stablecoin is designed to maintain a value of one U.S. dollar. Bitstamp also serves Robinhood’s institutional trading customers.
Ripple Prime already offers Bitstamp lending and margin financing across roughly 20 digital assets. Its clients can also trade cryptocurrencies directly on Bitstamp. The partners expect to add perpetual futures trading before the end of the year. Neither firm disclosed expected settlement volumes for the deal.
Treasury Software Joins the Agreement
Robinhood plans to adopt Ripple Treasury for cash management, payments, forecasting and financial risk controls. The move follows Ripple Prime’s recent expansion into asset-linked trading, including products that accept RLUSD as collateral.
The software will also help offset payments owed between the company’s own businesses, reducing the number of transfers needed. Neither company announced an integration date.
Johann Kerbrat, who leads Robinhood Crypto and International, said, “Utility is what moves stablecoins forward.”
Ripple Receives Bank Approval
The partnership follows final federal approval for Ripple’s national trust bank on October 26. The bank will manage RLUSD reserves and provide digital asset custody. Ripple’s New York-regulated subsidiary will continue issuing the stablecoin.
Ripple also expanded its partnership with BNY on October 27. BNY now supports custody of XRP and RLUSD and plans to explore tokenized trade finance. RLUSD has reached a market value of about $2.5 billion since launching in December 2024.
