Coinbase Derivatives Expand UK Product Range
Coinbase said its options service will focus only on crypto assets. Professional clients will gain access to calls, puts, and multi-leg strategies as the company broadens products for UK investors.
The launch follows Coinbase’s MiFID license. The company said the license allows it to offer derivatives contracts in the UK to clients who meet professional investor requirements.
Coinbase has continued to expand its UK services beyond crypto spot trading. The company began rolling out access to nearly 4,000 U.S.-listed stocks to eligible UK users, adding equities alongside crypto and fiat services.
The “Everything Exchange” plan also includes stablecoins, savings, borrowing, and products. Coinbase said the strategy aims to give users access to more asset classes through one platform.
Revenue Mix Moves Beyond Bitcoin
Coinbase has worked to reduce its reliance on bitcoin spot trading revenue. In its second-quarter report, the company said 88% of net revenue came from sources other than bitcoin spot trading.
The exchange reported that its global trading volume share rose to a record 10.3% in the quarter. That figure increased from 9.1% in the first quarter.
Coinbase describes itself as the most comprehensively regulated crypto company in the UK. Its subsidiary, CB Payments Ltd, operates under authorization from the Financial Conduct Authority for investment services.
The subsidiary is also authorized under the Electronic Money Regulations 2011 to issue electronic money. Coinbase continues to use these permissions to expand products for retail and professional clients.
