KuCoin strengthens compliance systems as crypto resilience rules expand globally
KuCoin has secured ISO 22301 certification, strengthening business continuity controls across its global cryptocurrency platform. The standard covers disruption planning, service recovery, and access to critical operations. KuCoin said the certification supports its wider effort to improve operational resilience.
KuCoin Adds ISO 22301 to Trust Framework
ISO 22301 provides a formal structure for managing disruptions and restoring essential services. It requires risk assessments, continuity plans, recovery procedures, testing, and regular reviews. KuCoin now adds that framework to its existing security and reliability controls.
The exchange already holds ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and SOC 2 Type II certifications. Together, the standards address information security, operational reliability, and business continuity. ISO 22301 focuses specifically on keeping services available when unexpected incidents disrupt normal operations.
Crypto exchanges face continuous operational demands because digital asset markets never close. Platforms must support trading, transfers, payments, and custody services across regions and time zones. ISO 22301 helps KuCoin prepare for cloud outages, node failures, infrastructure problems, and payment disruptions.
Operational Resilience Becomes a Regulatory Priority
Regulators have increased their focus on business continuity as digital assets enter regulated financial markets. European rules now require stronger controls for technology risks, incident management, service recovery, and third-party dependencies. KuCoin’s ISO 22301 certification fits that wider shift toward formal resilience standards.
The European Union applies MiCA rules to crypto service providers operating across its market. DORA also sets requirements for technology risks, resilience testing, incident response, and third-party oversight. KuCoin operates in Europe through its Austrian-licensed subsidiary under the MiCA passporting system.
Financial authorities elsewhere have also emphasized continuity planning within operational risk management. Singapore and Hong Kong regulators maintain guidance on service availability, recovery planning, and technology disruptions. ISO 22301 gives KuCoin a recognized framework supporting those expectations across several markets.
KuCoin Expands Compliance and Continuity Controls
KuCoin has continued adding formal controls while expanding regulated operations across several jurisdictions. The exchange registered with Australia’s AUSTRAC and later secured authorization for services across Europe. It also joined a Nigerian supervisory pilot covering anti-money laundering and virtual asset compliance.
The company has also faced enforcement actions that increased scrutiny of its compliance record. U.S. authorities previously pursued cases involving licensing, anti-money laundering controls, and unregistered commodities activities. KuCoin has since continued strengthening governance, security, compliance, and operational systems.
ISO 22301 adds a dedicated continuity layer focused on recovery after serious disruptions. The certification requires organizations to test plans, review weaknesses, and improve procedures over time. KuCoin now combines ISO 22301 with security and reliability standards under its wider Trust Framework.
