NFT trading has fallen far from its 2021 peak, but it has not stopped. Monthly trading volume reached $546 million in October 2025, according to DappRadar. Sales hit 10.1 million that month, the highest count of the year.
The size of the market depends on who is counting. Estimates for 2025 range from about $5.5 billion to $43.08 billion because each source measures something different.
This article collects the latest NFT statistics on market size, trading volume, prices, users, marketplaces, blockchains and forecasts. Each figure is tied to its source, and the time period is stated where it matters.
How Big Is the NFT Market in 2026?
There is no single agreed figure for the size of the NFT market. Research firms use different definitions, and that creates wide gaps. Fortune Business Insights valued the market at USD 16.02 billion in 2025 and projects USD 18.71 billion for 2026. It measures the total annual trading value of NFT transactions on blockchain marketplaces.
The Business Research Company, cited by Colexion, puts the 2025 market at $43.08 billion and the 2026 market at $60.82 billion. The Block estimated annualized trade volume of about $5.5 billion for 2025.
Statista takes a revenue view. It projects NFT revenue of US$318.3 million in 2026, with average revenue per user of US$28.7 and user penetration of 0.14%.
Market capitalization gives another reading. CoinGecko data cited by Colexion puts NFT market cap near $5.6 billion, with about $13 million in daily trading volume.
The lesson is simple. Compare numbers only when they come from the same source and use the same definition.
Definitions matter for a second reason. Some firms count only sales on public marketplaces, while others add mints, private deals and related activity. A wider definition always shows a larger market, so the gap between $5.5 billion and $43.08 billion does not by itself mean one source is wrong.
Statista says it updates its market model twice a year. Its forecasts draw on trading volumes, interest rates, inflation and app downloads, so new data can change the numbers.
| Source | What it measures | Figure | Period |
|---|---|---|---|
| Statista | Revenue | US$318.3 million | 2026 |
| The Block | Annualized trade volume | About $5.5 billion | 2025 |
| Fortune Business Insights | Total trading value | USD 16.02 billion | 2025 |
| The Business Research Company | Market value | $43.08 billion | 2025 |

NFT Trading Volume From Peak to Rebuild
Chainalysis reported that collectors sent about $40 billion to NFT marketplaces in 2021. By May 1, 2022, the total for that year had already passed $37 billion.
Monthly Ethereum NFT volume peaked near $3.5 billion in 2022. It fell to about $480 million during the 2024 correction, a drop of roughly 86%.
Volume has since moved up. DappRadar recorded $698 million in November 2024, a 22% rise from the month before, across 3 million transactions.
In October 2025, monthly volume reached $546 million, up 30% from September. Sales hit 10.1 million, the highest count of the year.
EarnPark reported that Ethereum NFT volume averaged $720 million a month in early 2026. That is a 50% rebound from the 2024 low, but it is about one fifth of the 2022 peak.
Animoca Brands co-founder Yat Siu said NFT sales were about $300 million over a 30-day period. He described the market as “in the doldrums, but definitely not dead.”
Lower prices explain part of the pattern. Layer 2 networks such as Base have cut fees enough to make small sales practical.
Wider crypto prices also play a part. Fortune Business Insights says weaker crypto prices and lower speculative interest drove the fall in 2022 and 2023. NFT trading follows crypto cycles, which is why volume can swing sharply from one month to the next.
| Period | Monthly volume | Sales count | Context |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2022 peak | About $3.5 billion | n/a | Ethereum NFTs |
| 2024 low | About $480 million | n/a | Ethereum NFTs |
| November 2024 | $698 million | 3 million | All NFTs, up 22% month over month |
| October 2025 | $546 million | 10.1 million | All NFTs, up 30% month over month |
| Q1 2026 average | $720 million | n/a | Ethereum NFTs |
Prices and the Art NFT Decline
The average NFT price fell from around $321 in January 2025 to $54 in October 2025. That is a drop of about 83%, or roughly six-fold. Lower prices have opened the market to smaller buyers.
Art NFTs show a steeper fall. DappRadar data shows trading volume rose from $28.7 million in 2020 to $2.9 billion in 2021.
Volume then slipped to $2.38 billion in 2022, a 19% decline, even though sales rose 31% to 1.91 million. By 2024, Art NFT volume stood at $197 million.
In the first quarter of 2025, it was $23.8 million. DappRadar says the top 20 Art NFT collections of 2021 lost an average of 95% of their volume and sales by 2024.
The average Art NFT price followed the same path. It was $2,044 in 2021, $1,251 in 2022 and $475 in 2023.
Bitcoin Ordinals went the other way. Their average price rose 896%, from $63 in 2023 to $633 in the first quarter of 2025.
The record sales all date from 2021 and early 2022. None of the top ten has been matched since.
Many holders who bought near the peak now own assets worth far less than they paid. Readers weighing NFT purchases should note the 95% average decline across the top Art collections. Fortune Business Insights adds that art and collectibles still make up the largest share of trading value.
| Rank | NFT | Price | Date sold |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Merge | $91.8 million | December 2021 |
| 2 | Everydays: The First 5000 Days | $69.3 million | March 2021 |
| 3 | Clock | $52.7 million | February 2022 |
| 4 | HUMAN ONE | $28.9 million | November 2021 |
| 5 | CryptoPunk #5822 | $23.7 million | February 2022 |
Active NFT Traders and Wallets
Chainalysis recorded 950,000 unique addresses that bought or sold an NFT in the first quarter of 2022. That was up from 627,000 in the fourth quarter of 2021.
Active wallets have since dropped and partly recovered. Thirty-day active wallets were about 1.2 million at the 2022 peak, about 280,000 in 2024 and about 505,000 in early 2026.
The 2026 figure is roughly 42% of the peak. It suggests that a large share of the user base stayed after prices fell.
DappRadar counted 820,945 traders across the platform in October 2025. That was 1% higher than in September.
The Art NFT segment tells a harsher story. Active traders reached an all-time high of 529,101 in 2022 and then fell 96% to 19,575 in the first quarter of 2025.
Trackers define an active user in different ways. Some count wallets over 30 days, and others count buyers and sellers over a quarter or a year. Incentives also distort counts, since Blur used reward programs to win share and DX Terminal climbed through airdrop-driven activity.
| Measure | Figure | Period | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unique addresses buying or selling | 950,000 | Q1 2022 | Chainalysis |
| 30-day active wallets | About 1.2 million | 2022 peak | EarnPark |
| 30-day active wallets | About 280,000 | 2024 low | EarnPark |

NFT Marketplace Market Share
Leadership among NFT marketplaces has changed hands several times. OpenSea held 87.5% of the market in January 2022, when it handled $4.64 billion in monthly volume. By November 2022 its share was 37.3%.
Blur then took over. It reached a 62.4% share in February 2023, the highest single-month share for any marketplace after OpenSea.
Magic Eden passed Blur in March 2024 with a 38.5% share. Its monthly volume more than doubled to $734.60 million that month, helped by Bitcoin Ordinals.
In August 2024, Magic Eden held 36.7% with $122.47 million in volume. Blur had 25.4% and OpenSea had 19.9%. Together the top three held 82.0% of volume.
OpenSea is changing its model. It announced a SEA token for the first quarter of 2026 and plans to give 50% of the supply to the community. Forbes has reported that the company is moving toward wider crypto trading.
Blur won share with incentives and professional trader tools, according to Fortune Business Insights. Magic Eden grew by expanding from Solana into Ethereum and Bitcoin Ordinals. Both moves show how quickly a rival can gain ground.
Other platforms compete in narrower areas. SuperRare and Foundation focus on curated art, NBA Top Shot sells its own sports collectibles, and OKX NFT links to a crypto exchange. Rarible changed its model in December 2025 to add token buybacks and trader rewards.
| Marketplace | Aug 2024 share | Aug 2024 volume | Volume, 2022 to 2024 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Magic Eden | 36.7% | $122.47 million | $6.39 billion |
| Blur | 25.4% | $84.69 million | $8.54 billion |
| OpenSea | 19.9% | $66.52 million | $23.14 billion |
NFT Statistics by Blockchain
Ethereum remains the main NFT network. CoinLaw data, cited by Colexion, says Ethereum holds 62% of NFT contracts. Solana has 18%, Polygon 11% and BNB Chain 6%.
The Block measures volume instead of contracts. It estimates that Ethereum mainnet made up about 45% of NFT volume in 2025.
Marketplace leaders differ by chain. On Ethereum in 2024, Blur recorded $2.43 billion, a 68.8% share. OpenSea recorded $0.64 billion.
On Solana, Magic Eden held 50.4% with $654.80 million. Tensor held 49.6% with $645.39 million.
On Bitcoin, Magic Eden handled $1.79 billion in Ordinals volume, a 61.0% share. OKX was second at 28.8%.
Newer networks are gaining ground. In October 2025, Base passed Solana and Polygon in monthly NFT volume with $88 million, while Ethereum led with $263 million.
Bitcoin has become its own NFT category. Ordinals launched in early 2023 and let users inscribe data on single satoshis. OKX volume rose from $8.35 million in October 2023 to $684.65 million by December, before Magic Eden took the lead.
| Blockchain | 2024 YTD volume | Top marketplace | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ethereum | $2.43 billion (Blur) | Blur | 68.8% |
| Solana | $654.80 million (Magic Eden) | Magic Eden | 50.4% |
| Bitcoin (Ordinals) | $1.79 billion (Magic Eden) | Magic Eden | 61.0% |

NFT Market Statistics by Region
North America is the largest region. Fortune Business Insights puts its 2025 market at USD 5.45 billion, a 34.02% share of the global total.
The firm expects Asia Pacific to reach USD 5.33 billion in 2026 and Europe to reach USD 5.11 billion. Asia Pacific growth is tied to gaming NFTs in countries such as South Korea and Japan.
The United States is projected at USD 4.80 billion in 2026. The United Kingdom is projected at USD 1.16 billion, about 6.2% of the global total, and Germany at USD 0.94 billion.
China is projected at USD 1.09 billion, Japan at USD 0.92 billion and India at USD 0.82 billion. South America is projected at USD 0.91 billion, with Brazil as its largest contributor.
Search data shows a different pattern. Statista’s Google Trends index for the term “NFT” ranks Pakistan first at 100, followed by India at 19 and China at 17.
The United States scored 8, and the United Kingdom and Germany each scored 7. Statista links Asian interest partly to blockchain gaming, including Axie Infinity in the Philippines.
North America’s lead rests on early marketplace development, high crypto adoption and venture funding for U.S. platforms. In the Middle East, Animoca Brands received a Dubai license in February 2026 that allows regulated services, including NFT-related brokerage. The GCC is projected at USD 0.48 billion in 2026, about 2.5% of the global total.
| Region or country | 2026 projection | Share of global |
|---|---|---|
| Asia Pacific | USD 5.33 billion | n/a |
| Europe | USD 5.11 billion | n/a |
| United States | USD 4.80 billion | n/a |
| United Kingdom | USD 1.16 billion | 6.2% |
| China | USD 1.09 billion | 5.8% |
| Middle East & Africa | USD 1.04 billion | n/a |

| Japan | USD 0.92 billion | 4.9% |
| India | USD 0.82 billion | 4.4% |
Who Owns NFTs
Asia has the most NFT owners, at about 2.8 million. That equals 0.06% of the population, according to ElectoIQ data cited by Colexion.
Men make up 63% of owners, women 35%, and 2% prefer not to say. For every nine male owners there are about five female owners.
Owners skew young. People aged 25 to 34 are 38% of owners, and those aged 35 to 44 are 28%. Adults over 55 are only 7%.
Finder data shows the same split in the United States. About 5% of adults aged 18 to 34 own NFTs, compared with 1% of those over 55.
Ownership rates are highest in Asia and Africa. India leads at 13.5%, followed by Vietnam at 11.6% and Hong Kong at 10.8%.
Ownership data comes from surveys, so it carries error. The figures also come from different years, and some countries have small samples. Treat the country numbers as a guide to relative interest and not an exact count.
Gender gaps are narrow in some places. In Japan, women are 1.6% of owners and men are 1.5%.
| Country | Male | Female | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| India | 8.4% | 5% | 13.5% |
| Vietnam | 6.4% | 5.2% | 11.6% |
| Hong Kong | 6.1% | 4.7% | 10.8% |
| Singapore | 5.6% | 3.6% | 9.2% |
| Nigeria | 5.6% | 3% | 8.6% |
| United States | 3.8% | 1% | 5.1% |
| United Kingdom | 2.2% | 0.9% | 3.1% |
| Germany | 1.6% | 0.7% | 2.3% |
Top Collections, Gaming and Brand Deals
Most profile-picture projects from 2021 have lost value. One 2026 industry report says blue-chip collections take about 70% of profile-picture trading, with floor prices above $10,000. Other projects trade below $50.
Bored Ape Yacht Club traded at about 128 ETH at its peak. Its floor fell to about 11 ETH in the 2024 correction and was near 18 ETH in early 2026.
Pudgy Penguins has done better. Its floor rose from about 3.5 ETH at the 2022 peak to about 14 ETH in early 2026.
The collection also sells physical toys through Walmart and Target, which earns revenue apart from NFT trading.
New names are climbing the rankings. DX Terminal ranked second by volume in October 2025, and Courtyard uses NFTs to authenticate physical trading cards.
Gaming is a growth area. Colexion reports that gaming NFTs make up 38% of transaction volume, and CoinLaw says gaming NFT transaction counts grew 140% year over year.
Other categories have reported figures too. Colexion, citing CoinLaw, lists real estate NFTs at a $1.4 billion market after 32% growth, fashion NFTs at $890 million and music NFTs at over $520 million. These numbers come from one source and have not been confirmed by a second.
| Brand deal | Date | Price | Channel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yuga Labs x Amazon (Boximus) | October 30, 2025 | About $66 | Amazon gaming page |
| Doodles x Froot Loops | October 1, 2025 | $50 | 500 limited cereal boxes |
| Pudgy Toys | 2024 to 2026 | Retail prices | Walmart and Target |
NFT Market Forecasts and Segments
Fortune Business Insights expects the market to grow from USD 18.71 billion in 2026 to USD 102.59 billion by 2034. That is a compound annual growth rate of 23.7%.
The Business Research Company is more optimistic. It projects a 41.2% growth rate and a market of $245.42 billion by 2029. The gap shows how much forecasts depend on definitions.
Ethereum, open marketplaces, individual users and art and collectibles led their segments in 2025, according to Fortune Business Insights. Individual users are expected to grow at 25.6% a year.
The fastest forecast growth is in real-world asset tokenization at 26.4%. Solana and gaming-focused marketplaces are each forecast at 26.1%.
Risks remain. Fortune Business Insights points to price swings, unclear regulation and liquidity limits, while Statista’s analysts list overvaluation and fraudulent projects.
Regulation is still a question. One 2026 industry report cites the EU’s MiCA rules, which treat NFTs that represent financial instruments as securities. Collectible NFTs generally fall outside securities law, and U.S. SEC guidance separates utility NFTs from yield-bearing ones.
| Segment | 2025 leader | Fastest forecast growth |
|---|---|---|
| Blockchain platform | Ethereum | Solana, 26.1% CAGR |
| Marketplace type | Open marketplaces | Gaming-focused, 26.1% CAGR |
| End user | Individual users | Individual users, 25.6% CAGR |
| Application | Art and collectibles | Real-world assets, 26.4% CAGR |
Conclusion
NFT trading in 2026 is smaller than at the 2021 peak. Monthly volume of $546 million in October 2025 is about one sixth of the 2022 high, and Art NFT volume has fallen far more.
Yet some measures have held up. Sales counts reached 10.1 million in a single month, and about 505,000 wallets were active in early 2026.
The market is also changing shape. Prices are lower, Magic Eden and Blur have taken share from OpenSea, and brand deals and gaming now draw more attention than digital art.
Forecasts vary widely, so readers should check the definition behind each number. The next test is whether the early 2026 rebound in monthly volume continues.
