Anthropic said on Oct. 18, 2026, that it is committing part of its shares to a new group called the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund. The company shared the plan in a post on its website.
We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit.

Subject to stockholder approval, 5% of Anthropic’s shares will be committed right away. The board can add 2% more for every 50% increase in the company’s value above a set baseline.
How the fund is set up
The fund will be a wholly owned LLC, not a 501(c)(3) or another format. Anthropic said this gives it room to switch between different forms of giving.
None of the equity held by the LLC will be used for lobbying or political giving. That rule applies in the US and abroad.
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation. Most of its mission work already takes place inside the company.
That work includes AI safety and interpretability research, applied biomedical research, and discounts on Claude for nonprofits and scientific institutions. Anthropic said these projects have both public benefit and for-profit value.
The new fund is meant to have more flexibility and scale. Anthropic said it might make large donations to traditional nonprofits or send direct payments to specific groups of people.
One area the company named is the job market. It said AI may create large economic value but could also cause instability for many workers.
Anthropic has already committed $200 million to studying and addressing the issue. It said the fund could support additional approaches given how fast AI is moving.
Building on earlier pledges
The structure means the fund’s share grows as the company grows. Anthropic said the larger it becomes, the more of it can go to the public good.
The company said tech firms often offer escalating pay awards to executives. Anthropic said it is directing that equity to the public benefit instead.
The announcement builds on earlier commitments. When Anthropic was founded, its co-founders pledged to donate 80% of their equity.
The company also runs an equity donation match program. Employees can pledge equity, and Anthropic matches it. About half of employees take part.
Combined with the new fund, roughly 20% of Anthropic shares will be dedicated to the public good. More could be added if the company reaches certain valuation milestones.
Anthropic said it will share more about the fund’s structure and governance in the coming months. That includes the valuation milestones that may add to its stake.
The company also plans to report on its progress to date against its mission. The update will come in an upcoming public benefit report.
