BREAKING🚨 @BlackRock just filed for another Bitcoin ETF. This one will be a "buffer" Bitcoin ETF which will means it will offer downside protection but investors will give up some upside to get that protection. Ticker will be $PBIT. pic.twitter.com/302iMwn2fR

The product is called the iShares Bitcoin Managed Protect ETF. It is built to give investors some protection from losses while keeping some of the possible gains.
What the Filing Says
BlackRock described the fund’s goal in the filing. The fund seeks to provide upside exposure to the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF and similar bitcoin exposure up to an approximate limit.
At the same time, it seeks to provide a level of downside protection. The exact level of protection and the upside limit have not been set.
Bloomberg Intelligence analyst James Seyffart commented on the filing on X. He called the product a “buffer” bitcoin ETF. Investors would get some protection against losses but give up part of the reward.
Reports say the fund would trade under the symbol PBIT. The fund would follow BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF.
The structure does not protect investors from all risk. The upside cap could also limit returns if the price of bitcoin rises sharply.
BlackRock’s Bitcoin Lineup
BlackRock launched its iShares Bitcoin Trust in January 2024. The fund now holds more than $65 billion in assets, according to The Block’s bitcoin ETF tracker. That makes it the largest fund of its kind.
The firm added another product in June. The iShares Bitcoin Premium Income ETF is designed to give bitcoin exposure while paying monthly option premium income.
The new filing would be the third bitcoin ETF filing from BlackRock. Seyffart pointed this out in his post on Monday.
He also noted that BlackRock still has only bitcoin and Ethereum products. The firm has no funds tied to other cryptocurrencies.
Other companies have moved faster to widen their offerings. Over the past couple of years, issuers have launched ETFs that track XRP, Solana and Dogecoin.
The new filing does not add another cryptocurrency. It adds a new way to hold bitcoin.
BlackRock is the world’s largest investment manager. The filing shows the firm is taking an active approach to bitcoin products.
The SEC registration process is still underway. The protection level, upside cap and management fee have not been announced.
