Solana postponed the Shanghai opening of its Accelerate China 2026 tour on October 16 after attendees reported officers at the venue. Organizers cited logistical arrangements without explaining the reported police presence.
Solana Shanghai Event Faces Last-Minute Delay
Visitors at Shanghai’s Shangri-La hotel said eight or nine law enforcement officers were present. Some registered guests said they waited outside for more than an hour before receiving an update.
Organizers said the morning sessions had been postponed. They promised updates through email and Luma. Neither authorities nor the Solana Foundation publicly said police had ordered the event closed.
CZ Questions Organizers Despite Earlier Praise
Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao questioned the planning on X. “Sad to see. Looks like they really didn’t know the local policies?” he wrote on October 16, pointing to a previous incident.
Sad to see. Looks like they really didn't know the local policies? But it's not the first time either, same thing happened less than a year ago: https://t.co/c2lI8p2r9w https://t.co/n2Zv1hpIyZ

On October 15, Zhao praised Solana’s Shanghai office and advertising, saying BNB Chain had not achieved the same. A report on Solana’s online attention this week placed its share at 16.74%.
Zhao also cited an October 2025 Solana gathering in Shenzhen. Police reportedly made an on-site inquiry, while organizers then attributed canceled hackathon presentations to crowding and safety arrangements.
Planned Talks Went Beyond Cryptocurrency Trading
According to Solana’s published Shanghai agenda, Foundation President Lily Liu was scheduled to discuss internet capital markets. A representative from Alibaba’s Qwen team was due to discuss AI tools for developers.
Robotics sessions and enterprise technology presentations were also on the program. They followed Solana’s October 9 move toward 200-millisecond blocks, part of the network’s effort to process updates more often.
China’s February 2026 rules prohibit virtual currency trading and related financial activities. However, officials have not cited those rules as grounds for stopping the Shanghai gathering.
Remaining China Events Await Confirmation
Solana’s official X account promoted all four tour stops on October 12. Its website continued listing Hangzhou for October 18, Shenzhen for October 20, and Beijing for October 22.
The schedule also overlaps with Solana’s planned Alpenglow network upgrade on October 21. Developers expect that upgrade to reduce transaction confirmation times, though it is unrelated to the Shanghai venue issue.
Organizers have not announced a replacement time for Shanghai. The other three cities still appear on the public itinerary, and no official cancellation notice has been issued for those meetings.
