The models will arrive in Google Cloud’s Model Garden and in the Antigravity coding tool in the coming weeks. OpenAI’s Codex agentic workflows will also be part of the integration.
With this deal, OpenAI’s models will be on all three of the top cloud infrastructure providers. The company is working to grow its business beyond its consumer roots and reach more enterprise developers.
How the Deal Fits Into OpenAI’s Cloud Expansion
Less than six months ago, OpenAI said Microsoft would no longer hold the exclusive license on its intellectual property. The day after that ended, Amazon announced plans to host OpenAI models.
Google and OpenAI have worked together before. Last year, OpenAI said it was using Google’s cloud to run ChatGPT and its application programming interface.
OpenAI said Google Cloud has long invested in machine learning and AI. The company called it a destination for AI workloads and the developers building them.
Google Cloud customers will be able to buy OpenAI models through the Model Garden. Purchases will go through the Google Cloud Marketplace.
Companies with Google Cloud spend commitments can use those commitments to pay for the models. OpenAI models will also soon be available in Google Antigravity and the Gemini Agent.
OpenAI said the integration will pair its models with Google Cloud’s access controls and data governance. These features are meant to help organizations in regulated industries control who can reach sensitive data.
Google has had a strong year in cloud computing. Annualized revenue growth in the segment rose to about 82% in the second quarter, from 63% in the first quarter. Demand for AI models and custom chips helped drive the increase.
Amazon and Microsoft reported second-quarter cloud growth of 37% and 42%, respectively. All three companies report quarterly results next week.
Data from corporate card issuer Ramp shows most business spending on AI goes to OpenAI and Anthropic. Some corporate IT departments have also added Google’s Gemini models to their systems.
In September, Google announced its next-generation Gemini 4 Argon model. OpenAI was founded in 2015 partly as a counterweight to the concentration of AI research at companies like Google.
OpenAI is now courting investors at a $1.4 trillion valuation and is targeting an initial public offering. Shares of Alphabet were down 1.62% on Wednesday, the day the deal was announced.
