TLDR
- BNB Chain plans a new Layer 1 network that will run alongside BNB Smart Chain without a separate token.
- The network targets 200-millisecond blocks and transaction pre-confirmation in about 20 milliseconds.
- An internal devnet is running, with a public testnet planned for late 2026 and mainnet in early 2027.
- BNB will remain the gas, staking and governance asset, linked through a native bridge still in development.
- Binance founder Changpeng Zhao responded with “Multiple chains, one coins.”
BNB Chain has outlined plans for a new high-performance Layer 1 blockchain that will run next to BNB Smart Chain. The new network will not introduce its own cryptocurrency.
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, known as CZ, reacted to the plan on X. He reposted a user’s post and wrote, “Multiple chains, one coins.”

The project is called New L1 for now and has no official name. Early development is underway, but public access and a mainnet launch are still pending.
How the New Network Will Work
BNB Smart Chain will keep supporting its current decentralized finance apps, trading platforms and other services. The new chain will handle transactions that need lower delays.
The two blockchains will connect through a native bridge that is still being built. Users will be able to move BNB from BSC to the new network.
BNB will pay for transaction fees and be used for staking on both chains. Staked tokens will produce govBNB at a one-to-one ratio, which gives non-transferable voting rights.
BNB Chain’s updated documentation, published on October 22, describes an EVM-compatible chain for apps that need faster processing and predictable execution. Developers can keep using existing Solidity smart contracts, though some Ethereum RPC methods and transaction types will not work.
Operating several chains with one shared asset does not guarantee more network activity or token demand, the report noted.
Speed and Technical Features
The design targets a new block every 200 milliseconds. It also aims for pre-confirmation of transactions in about 20 milliseconds.
An enhanced Parlia consensus system uses BLS voting to target transaction-order finality in under one second. Pre-confirmations only show that a transaction is likely to be included, and they can be revoked before final settlement.
The chain separates transaction ordering from execution. This lets validators agree on blocks without waiting for every transaction to finish.
A Multi-Lane feature will reserve capacity for certain types of activity, such as high-frequency trading, decentralized order books and payments. The network also includes native account abstraction and an optional privacy feature based on a shielded pool.
Recent Activity on BNB Chain
The plan follows growing use of tokenized financial products on the network. An October 23 report found BNB Chain handled about $25.6 billion in tokenized stock transactions in the third quarter.
The network held about $1.13 billion in tokenized equity supply at quarter-end, with roughly 1.8 million holders. Transactions reached 1.51 billion, and network revenue rose 54% to $54.2 million.
Developers have also upgraded the existing chain. The August 25 Pasteur hard fork changed how BSC builds blocks and strengthened validator authorization and bridge checks.
In controlled tests, throughput rose from 1,237 to 2,324 transactions per second. Those results do not show the same gains on the live network.
Testing and Launch Timeline
An internal multi-validator development network is running with block production and end-to-end finality. A public testnet is planned for the end of 2026, followed by a mainnet launch in early 2027.
Neither launch has happened, and the schedule could change. The native bridge is not finished.
The privacy system still needs security audits and more trusted-setup work. The documentation warns that the shielded pool should not be used with real funds.
BNB traded at around $740 at press time, up more than 2% over the past seven days, according to crypto.news market data.
