TLDR
- Tether says 15 Bitcoin mining companies, chip makers and pools have committed to support its open-source Mining Development Kit (MDK).
- Bitmain, Bitdeer, Canaan, MicroBT, Foundry Digital and F2Pool are among the participants.
- Each firm will build a “Worker” that links its own equipment or services to MDK.
- Tether’s QVAC mining agent already runs on MDK, but no performance results were shared.
- MDK’s first stable 1.0 release is planned before the end of 2026.
Tether has secured commitments from 15 Bitcoin mining companies to support its open-source Mining Development Kit, known as MDK. The stablecoin issuer announced the news on October 24.

The group includes hardware makers, mining operators and mining pools. Tether says the goal is to let mining equipment work through one shared software layer.
Who is backing the project
Bitmain, Bitdeer, Canaan, MicroBT, Foundry Digital, F2Pool, Luxor Technology and OCEAN are among the participants. Others include ACME Swisstech, Elektron Energy, EMCD, Heatbit, Proto, SpiderPool and Stratum V2.
Each company has agreed to build and maintain an integration. Tether did not say that all 15 have finished their connections or put MDK to use in their operations.
No deployment numbers, performance comparisons or cost savings were shared for the participating firms.
How MDK works
Large mining sites can run thousands of machines from different makers. Cooling systems and mining pools often use their own separate software.
MDK is built to solve that problem with software parts called Workers. Each Worker translates data from a company’s equipment into a format that apps built on MDK can read.
An operator could then use the same monitoring tools across machines from different makers. Companies do not need to replace their hardware or give up control of their systems.
Participants choose which functions they want to make available through the shared interface.
AI tools and Tether’s wider plans
Tether expects the shared layer to support AI tools that watch equipment, spot faults and adjust operations. Its QVAC mining agent already runs directly on MDK, according to the company.
The announcement did not include independent results on power use, mining output or maintenance costs.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said software will increasingly run physical infrastructure instead of only reporting on it. “That does not work at scale if every machine speaks a different language,” he said.
Ardoino also posted on X, calling the project “One Bitcoin Mining dev platform to mine them all.”
Tether first released MDK in April as an open-source framework. It includes a JavaScript development kit and a React library for building custom dashboards and equipment controls.
The software runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. It can be used on setups from home miners to large industrial sites.
In February, Tether released its Mining OS as open-source software. That system manages mining hardware, energy use and operating data, while MDK gives developers tools to build more apps.
Tether also took part in a funding round for chipmaker Tenstorrent, which raised $1.5 billion at a $6.2 billion valuation. The company did not say how much it invested.
MDK was scheduled to reach version 0.11 at the Plan ₿ Forum in Lugano on October 23 and 24. Tether says the stable 1.0 version is still targeted for release before the end of 2026.
Developers can already test integrations and build apps. Tether says MDK remains open to more manufacturers, pools, operators and developers.
