Cathie Wood, CEO of Ark Invest, is betting heavily on SpaceX and Tesla as her firm’s top AI investments. She made that clear during a Fox Business appearance on July 22, 2026.
SpaceX went public in June 2026. On its debut day alone, Ark deployed around $530 million into the stock. The firm has added more than $80 million in additional shares since then.
Space Exploration Technologies Corp., SPCX
SpaceX shares soared above $200 after the IPO but have since fallen sharply. The stock now trades below its IPO price of $135, sitting around $114.87 as of July 27, 2026. That puts shares about 45% off their record high.
Wood responded by buying more. Ark purchased $21.3 million in SpaceX stock across multiple funds during the pullback.
Why Wood Sees SpaceX as an AI Stock
SpaceX is not the obvious AI play, but Wood’s case centers on infrastructure. She points to orbital data centers and the Starlink satellite network as potential backbone for AI computation.
SpaceX claims its total addressable market is $28.5 trillion. More than 90% of that opportunity is tied to AI. Morgan Stanley projects SpaceX revenue could rise from $18.7 billion in 2025 to $319 billion by 2030.
Morgan Stanley reiterated a $300 price target for SpaceX. It is worth noting the bank was one of the underwriters for the IPO. SpaceX remains unprofitable.
Nearly 30 analysts cover the stock. The average price target is $243.81. One analyst has a target of $800. Another rates it a sell at $115.
Tesla Gets the Same Treatment
Tesla has consistently made up around 8% to 10% of Ark’s flagship ETF. After the stock fell roughly 15% on concerns about AI development timelines, Ark stepped in on July 24, 2026, and bought around 160,000 shares worth approximately $50 million.
Wood’s AI case for Tesla rests on robotaxis and the Optimus humanoid robot program. She sees Optimus as an AI model that trains on real-world data.
Wood’s broader view is that physical-world AI — autonomous vehicles, robotics, and space infrastructure — will generate more long-term value than large language model developers or cloud providers.
Ark’s SpaceX holding now accounts for around 4.5% of the Ark Innovation ETF’s invested assets. The firm has continued buying through the stock’s decline from its peak market cap of roughly $1.9 trillion.
SpaceX’s 52-week range runs from $110.85 to $225.64. The stock is currently near the low end of that range.
