TLDRs;
- Sandisk shares fell despite strong earnings as investors questioned whether price increases can sustain future growth.
- The company delivered record revenue growth, boosted by AI storage demand and higher NAND pricing.
- Data center sales doubled, but volume growth remained weaker than pricing contributions during the quarter.
- Investors now await Sandisk’s outlook on supply, contracts, and pricing stability at Investor Day.
Sandisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) stock declined after the company reported better-than-expected quarterly results, as investors focused less on the earnings beat and more on concerns surrounding the durability of its growth. Shares ended regular trading down 5.4% at $1,350.50 and extended losses in after-hours trading, falling another 4.2% to around $1,293.84.
The memory chip maker delivered a strong quarter, with revenue reaching $8.97 billion, representing a 51% increase from the previous quarter. Adjusted earnings came in at $39.25 per share, beating analyst expectations of $34.96 by more than 12%.
However, Wall Street’s reaction reflected concerns about what drove those results. While Sandisk posted impressive numbers, a large portion of the revenue increase came from higher pricing rather than stronger shipment volumes, raising questions about whether the company can maintain its current momentum if NAND market conditions weaken.
Pricing Drives Majority Of Growth
A closer look at Sandisk’s quarterly performance showed that pricing was responsible for most of the sequential revenue improvement. The company reported a $3.015 billion increase in sales compared with the previous quarter, with approximately $2.01 billion coming from improved pricing while volume contributed about $1.005 billion.
The results highlight the improving conditions in the memory semiconductor market, where supply discipline and recovering demand have helped manufacturers regain pricing power. However, investors remain cautious because memory markets have historically experienced sharp cycles, with periods of strong pricing followed by rapid declines.
Sandisk’s first-quarter outlook also contributed to investor uncertainty. The company expects revenue of $10.55 billion at the midpoint, representing a 17.7% increase from the previous quarter but falling about 2.5% below Wall Street expectations. Adjusted earnings guidance of $45 per share slightly exceeded analyst forecasts.
AI Demand Boosts Data Center Growth
Despite concerns around pricing sustainability, Sandisk highlighted several areas of strength, particularly in artificial intelligence infrastructure and data center demand. Data center revenue surged to $2.98 billion during the quarter, more than doubling from the previous period.
The segment accounted for 33.2% of total quarterly revenue, compared with 24.7% in the prior quarter. Sandisk also began generating revenue from its Stargate QLC platform, which targets growing storage requirements linked to artificial intelligence workloads.
Edge markets also remained a major contributor, generating $5.43 billion in revenue, up 48% sequentially. Consumer sales, however, weakened significantly, declining to $556 million as demand in traditional consumer storage products slowed.
Investors Watch Future Margins
Sandisk has attempted to reduce concerns about future volatility through long-term customer agreements. The company said eight customers have entered contracts guaranteeing minimum revenue commitments of approximately $93.9 billion at floor pricing, with agreements extending for more than four years.
These contracts provide visibility and protection against a sharp downturn, but they do not eliminate risks related to supply changes, customer demand, and semiconductor cycles.
The company also continues to support shareholders through aggressive buybacks. Sandisk spent $4.5 billion on share repurchases during the quarter, representing a significant portion of adjusted free cash flow. It still has approximately $15.5 billion remaining under its buyback authorization.
CEO David Goeckeler said Sandisk is positioned to deliver “growing and durable free cash flow,” but investors are seeking proof that recent pricing strength can translate into sustainable earnings growth.
