Zcash (ZEC) is trading near $1,259 on October 21. The privacy-focused cryptocurrency has had one of the strongest runs of 2026.

ZEC climbed from below $300 earlier this year to above $1,600 in September. It then corrected before buyers stepped back in.
On October 20, ZEC gained about 9%, moving from around $1,150 to $1,257. Prices remain below the September peak.
Analyst Altcoin Sherpa shared his view on X. He said the current area is “a very solid area to start building a long term position.” He still sees Zcash as one of the better big caps this cycle.
$ZEC this area is a very solid area to start building a long term position imo. I still think that ZCash is one of the better big caps this cycle and should still continue to outperform most. That said, the time for super asymmetric returns is mostly done imo; this isn't 'cheap'… pic.twitter.com/jLYmSCie8Q

Altcoin Sherpa also said the time for “super asymmetric returns” is mostly over, and that ZEC is no longer cheap. He added that it is still a coin traders can size into with more comfort than most others.
Chart Analysis: ZEC Holds Above Its Trendline
The daily chart shows a strong uptrend that began in August. ZEC broke out of a long range around $400–$500, then cleared the $600–$750 resistance zone.

Price peaked near $1,650 before sliding toward $1,100 in October. Still, ZEC sits well above its rising trendline, so the broader structure is intact.
The RSI is at 51.27, just above the neutral 50 line. That is up from weaker readings earlier this month and far below September’s overbought levels.
The MACD is still below zero, but the histogram has turned slightly positive. The MACD line has moved above the signal line, which suggests bearish momentum is fading.
Resistance sits at $1,300–$1,400, where sellers showed up before. A clean break could open $1,500 and a retest of the $1,650 high.
Support is at $1,100, then $1,000. Below that, $800 comes into view. Traders are watching volume on any push above $1,400, since a low-volume bounce would be less convincing.
Network Upgrades and On-Chain Data
CoinDesk Research reported on October 20 that Zcash holders voted overwhelmingly to keep the four-year halving schedule. The report also covered progress on the NU7 upgrade.
Zcash's NU7 is scheduled to activate on November 5 at approximately 7:50 PM EST (00:50 UTC November 6).
25-second blocks for faster confirmations, retirement of legacy v4 transactions, and more.

NU7 aims to cut block intervals from 75 seconds to about 25 seconds. The Zcash Foundation said the upgrade reached public testnet in October.
On-chain data shows about 29.18% of circulating ZEC, or 4.96 million coins, sat in shielded pools as of October 19. That figure comes from the independent ZecZcash tracker.
PrimeXBT’s August 2026 analysis projects a 2027 range of $848.25 to $1,719.08. Its average price estimate is about $1,211.75.
Reaching $2,000 would require roughly 59% upside from current levels. Bullish scenarios put ZEC at $1,800–$2,200, while base and bearish cases sit at $1,200–$1,700 and $700–$1,000.
As of October 21, ZEC trades near $1,259, with traders watching the $1,300–$1,400 resistance zone.
