Zeus Wallet, a self-custodial Bitcoin Lightning Network wallet, shut down its infrastructure on August 5, 2026, after detecting a cyberattack. The company said it contained the attack within hours but decided to keep services offline while it completes a full systems audit.

Founder Evan Kaloudis confirmed in a company blog post that the investigation so far points to the attack being limited to Zeus’ own infrastructure. No customer funds were lost, and no Lightning node software vulnerability has been found.
The wallet operates on a self-custodial model, meaning users hold their own funds rather than relying on the company to hold them. This structure is one reason the company says customer assets were not put at risk during the incident.
Zeus has not disclosed how attackers gained access to its systems. The company also has not given a timeline for when services will come back online.
Replacement Channels for Affected Users
Some users saw their Lightning Service Provider channels close during the outage. Zeus said those users will receive replacement channels once services resume and requests can be processed.
Affected customers were directed to contact support through the help section of the Zeus mobile wallet. The company warned that response times may be slower than usual due to an increase in support requests.
Kaloudis said the attack has reinforced the company’s work on trusted execution environments, also known as enclaves. He also pointed to the Validating Lightning Signer project as part of the infrastructure improvements Zeus has been developing to guard against this type of attack.
Service Disruption Follows Boltz Shutdown
The cyberattack outage comes just days after a separate service change at Zeus. On Monday, the wallet disabled its swap functionality after non-custodial Bitcoin swap provider Boltz suspended its platform until further notice.
Zeus linked the swap suspension directly to Boltz’s decision to halt operations. The two events have been announced separately, and the company has not indicated they are connected.
Zeus is currently focused on completing its internal audit before restoring infrastructure. Replacement Lightning channels for affected customers will be processed once services come back online.
The company has not released a specific date for when normal operations will resume.
