The model can generate spreadsheets, documents, and presentations with fewer back-and-forth exchanges. It also searches the web to gather information and produce answers to complex questions.
OpenAI built financial tools into the release that connect with data providers FactSet Research Systems and Third Bridge. These integrations are designed for users doing financial analysis and building investment memos.
Users can now access the model directly inside Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets. The ChatGPT add-in for Excel was also launched on the same day.
The release puts more pressure on Anthropic, which launched Claude for Financial Services last year. Both companies are competing to attract business customers willing to pay for AI tools.
GPT-5.4 Performance and Benchmarks
On an internal test of investment banking spreadsheet tasks, GPT-5.4 scored 87.3%, up from 68.4% for the previous GPT-5.2 model. Human raters preferred GPT-5.4 presentations 68% of the time over GPT-5.2.
On GDPval, which tests AI across 44 occupations, GPT-5.4 matched or beat industry professionals in 83% of comparisons. GPT-5.2 reached 70.9% on the same test.
GPT-5.4 also scored 75% on OSWorld-Verified, which measures how well a model navigates a desktop using screenshots and mouse commands. Human performance on that test sits at 72.4%.
The model is described by OpenAI as its most factual yet. Individual claims are 33% less likely to be false compared to GPT-5.2.
Availability and Pricing
GPT-5.4 is rolling out to ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro subscribers today under the name GPT-5.4 Thinking. The previous GPT-5.2 Thinking model will stay available for three months before being retired on June 5, 2026.
Enterprise and Edu plan users can enable early access through admin settings. GPT-5.4 Pro is available to Pro and Enterprise plan holders.
API pricing starts at $2.50 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens. This is higher than GPT-5.2, which was priced at $1.75 and $14 respectively.
The model supports up to one million tokens of context in Codex. Standard API requests support 272,000 tokens, with larger requests billed at twice the normal rate.
OpenAI said GPT-5.4 is more token-efficient than GPT-5.2, which it says helps reduce total costs even at the higher per-token price.
The model is also available through the company’s AI coding tool, Codex, and through the standard API as gpt-5.4.
