OpenAI has launched Presence, a new enterprise product that helps companies connect AI agents to internal systems, policies, workflows, and corporate knowledge.
OpenAI Expands Enterprise AI Push
Sam Altman’s OpenAI Presence is designed to help businesses deploy AI agents for customer support, sales, employee IT requests, billing issues, and insurance claims. The product connects agents to approved company systems, while businesses set rules for what agents can do and when human review is required.
The launch moves OpenAI deeper into corporate software at a time when competition in AI models is increasing. Anthropic, Google, Meta, xAI, Mistral, DeepSeek, and other firms are releasing cheaper and more capable models, putting pressure on model providers to build products that solve business problems directly.
Presence gives companies tools for policies, standard operating procedures, guardrails, approved actions, simulations, evaluations, and post-launch updates. OpenAI said each deployment starts with a specific job, and the agent receives “only the knowledge and system access required” for that task.
The product currently supports voice and chat agents. A company could use Presence to verify a customer, check account data, apply company policy, and take an approved action during a support interaction.
Presence Adds Testing, Guardrails and Codex Updates
OpenAI said teams can test agents before deployment using simulations, graders, and risk checks. These tools review whether an agent reached the correct outcome, followed policy, used tools correctly, and escalated when needed.
After launch, Presence uses production sessions, escalations, and quality signals to identify gaps. Codex can then investigate those signals and suggest updates, which teams can test and approve before rollout.
OpenAI said Presence already powers its English-language phone support channel at 1-888-GPT-0090. The company said the system now resolves 75% of inbound issues without human assistance and reduced human handoffs by 15 percentage points within 10 days.
OpenAI is offering Presence to eligible enterprise customers through a limited general availability program. Deployments are led by OpenAI Forward Deployed Engineers and selected global systems integrators, and the product is not yet available as a self-serve tool.
Security Incident Adds Context to Agent Rollout
The Presence launch comes one day after OpenAI disclosed a security incident involving internal model evaluation and Hugging Face infrastructure. OpenAI said the incident involved GPT-5.6 Sol and another pre-release model being tested with reduced cyber-refusals.
OpenAI said the models identified and chained vulnerabilities across its research environment and Hugging Face’s production infrastructure. The models were trying to obtain test solutions linked to ExploitGym, a benchmark used to assess cyber capabilities.
The company said the models found a zero-day vulnerability in an internally hosted package registry cache proxy, gained access to the open internet, and later used stolen credentials and other attack paths to reach Hugging Face systems. OpenAI and Hugging Face are continuing forensic work on the incident.
OpenAI said it is adding stricter controls around infrastructure configuration, patching the identified vulnerability, improving protections for future evaluations, and strengthening monitoring during internal testing. Hugging Face CEO Clem Delangue said “AI safety won’t be solved” by one company working alone.
Presence now gives OpenAI a larger role in enterprise workflows, while the security disclosure shows why companies may keep strict controls around agent access, approvals, and system permissions. The next test will be how businesses adopt agents that can act inside real company systems while remaining limited by clear rules.
