Salesforce (CRM) shares gained 3.24% to close at $162.01 after the company secured a $1.6 billion agreement with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The three-year enterprise agreement expands Salesforce technology across the department to support healthcare, benefits, and administrative services. The announcement also strengthens Salesforce’s position in large-scale government technology modernization.
VA expands Salesforce platform across healthcare and benefits
The Department of Veterans Affairs awarded Salesforce a three-year Agentic Enterprise License Agreement valued at $1.6 billion. The agreement enables the department to expand digital services across healthcare, benefits, and internal operations. Consequently, the department plans to improve service delivery while reducing administrative workloads.
The expanded deployment builds on a partnership that has continued for more than ten years. Salesforce will provide a unified platform that combines data, automation, collaboration, and artificial intelligence capabilities. As a result, employees can access information faster and complete routine tasks more efficiently.
The Department of Veterans Affairs serves more than 17 million veterans, family members, and caregivers across the United States. It also operates 170 medical centers and more than 1,100 outpatient clinics. During 2025, the department delivered more than 82 million direct-care appointments while demand for services continued to increase.
Agreement supports connected services across VA operations
The agreement introduces new capabilities for virtual support, care coordination, and administrative workflows across the department. AI-powered tools will assist with patient triage, intake, benefits verification, and case routing. Therefore, employees can dedicate more time to direct support and clinical responsibilities.
Salesforce will also expand collaboration capabilities through Slack across existing medical centers and outpatient facilities. The platform will support communication between departments while improving scheduling and provider coordination. Furthermore, the initiative supports the department’s goal of reducing appointment scheduling times from weeks to minutes after full deployment.
The agreement also strengthens data integration through MuleSoft and Data 360. These technologies will connect legacy systems into a unified data environment for employees and automated services. Tableau will convert operational data into dashboards that support claims processing, reporting, and management decisions.
Existing deployments provide foundation for broader rollout
The latest agreement extends several Salesforce deployments already operating within the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Veterans Crisis Line currently uses Salesforce Government Cloud to coordinate emergency responses for veterans requiring immediate assistance. The platform also supports rapid information sharing during critical situations.
VA Health Connect also operates on Salesforce technology to provide continuous patient support through clinical contact centers. Since deployment, the service has handled more than 40.6 million veteran calls covering triage, telehealth, urgent care, and provider consultations. These operations demonstrate the department’s existing reliance on Salesforce infrastructure.
Salesforce technology also supports the Status Query and Response Exchange System, which provides eligibility information for authorized organizations assisting veterans. Slack already operates across more than 150 medical and outpatient facilities to improve staff coordination. The expanded agreement builds on these deployments while supporting the department’s broader modernization strategy
