TLDR
- Jane Street disclosed nearly $1 billion in U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF holdings at the end of the second quarter.
- BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) dominated the portfolio, accounting for roughly $828 million of the reported exposure.
- The firm sharply rebuilt its IBIT position after cutting its holdings by about 71% during the first quarter.
- Jane Street also expanded exposure to other crypto ETFs, including products linked to XRP from Bitwise, Franklin Templeton, Grayscale, Canary Capital, and 21Shares.
- The Form 13F filing shows only certain long securities positions, meaning it does not reveal Jane Street’s full exposure through shorts, futures, swaps, or other hedges.
Jane Street disclosed nearly $1 billion in U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs in its second-quarter securities filing, led by a large position in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust. The holdings reflect positions reported as of June 30, 2026.
The filing followed reports that Jane Street lost about $15 billion in July. Reuters linked the loss to exposure to AI-focused hedge fund Situational Awareness and other market positions. Reuters did not connect the reported loss to Bitcoin ETF holdings.
Jane Street filed the Form 13F with the SEC on August 14. The document reports qualifying U.S. securities held at quarter-end, so the values can change sharply before investors see the filing several weeks later for public review.
Bitcoin ETFs Reach Nearly $1 Billion
Jane Street reported roughly $828 million in BlackRock’s IBIT at the end of the second quarter. Positions in Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund, Grayscale’s Bitcoin Trust and other funds brought its reported Bitcoin ETF holdings close to $1 billion.
BlackRock’s fund accounted for most of the total. Jane Street held about 24.9 million IBIT shares on June 30, according to reporting based on its Form 13F. The filing covers reportable securities and does not represent direct Bitcoin ownership.
The second-quarter position marked a sharp change from March. Jane Street had reported about 5.9 million IBIT shares worth nearly $225 million at the end of the first quarter after reducing the position by about 71%.
By June 30, the firm had rebuilt the holding to about 24.9 million shares. The change shows how quickly its reported ETF inventory moved between quarters. Jane Street also expanded its exposure to other crypto exchange-traded products during the period.
13F Filing Does Not Show Net Exposure
The same filing showed more than 1.2 million shares of Bitwise’s spot XRP ETF, compared with 20,605 shares three months earlier. Jane Street also reported positions in XRP products from Franklin Templeton, Grayscale, Canary Capital and 21Shares.
However, Form 13F disclosures show certain long securities positions at quarter-end, not a full trading book. They generally exclude short positions and can leave out futures, swaps and other hedges. Jane Street’s Bitcoin ETFs therefore show the scale of its reported holdings, but they do not establish its net directional Bitcoin position.
