The facility is set up through a special purpose vehicle, or SPV. FalconX handles originating, servicing, and managing the collateral, while assets securing the loans are held at qualified custodians.
For Ethena, the deal opens a new way to generate returns. Until now, USDe has relied mainly on crypto basis strategies, such as funding rates and basis spreads, to keep its dollar peg and generate yield.
USDe is a synthetic stablecoin with a market cap of about $4 billion, according to DefiLlama. It uses crypto collateral paired with short derivatives positions, rather than fiat reserves like USDT or USDC.
The new facility is one of the largest deployments of on-chain capital into secured institutional credit to date. Both companies say they expect to grow the arrangement as demand from institutional borrowers increases.
What the Facility Covers
FalconX says the facility can support financing for institutional trading strategies, corporate treasury management, and payment solutions.
The two companies did not disclose expected returns, loan terms, or the names of borrowers. They also did not say how much capital has been deployed so far.
This deal builds on an existing relationship. FalconX already supports USDe across its institutional trading and financing services.
Guy Young, founder of Ethena Labs, said secured institutional lending is one of the largest and most durable return sources in traditional finance. He said on-chain capital has barely entered that space yet.
Craig Birchall, Head of Credit at FalconX, said the partnership is a step toward flexible, overcollateralized financing for complex trading strategies, corporate treasury, and payments.
Bringing On-Chain Capital Into Traditional Credit
The deal is designed to bridge crypto-native liquidity with institutional borrowing demand. FalconX describes itself as a conduit between on-chain and traditional financial markets.
Ethena gets access to a stable return stream that does not depend on crypto market conditions alone. That could make USDe more resilient during periods when basis trading returns shrink.
The structure uses overcollateralization to manage risk. Collateral is held at qualified custodians, adding a layer of security for lenders.
The announcement came on August 19, 2026. Neither company gave a timeline for how quickly the $1 billion capacity would be fully deployed.
Both firms see this as a model that can scale. As institutional borrowing demand in the digital asset space grows, they plan to expand the facility further.
