Samsung Plans Up to $80 Billion in Shareholder Returns
Samsung Electronics moved higher after announcing plans to return as much as 110 trillion won, roughly $79.5 billion, to shareholders in 2026 through dividends and share buybacks.
The move comes as Samsung benefits from improving conditions in the memory-chip market and rising demand tied to artificial intelligence.
AI data centers require large amounts of advanced memory, particularly high-bandwidth memory used alongside powerful GPUs. That demand has helped lift pricing and profitability across the memory industry.
The shareholder-return plan points to confidence that Samsung’s chip business recovery can produce strong cash flow going forward.
Ross Stores Jumps After Raising Guidance
Ross Stores surged after raising its full-year earnings forecast and posting another strong quarter.
The off-price retailer now expects fiscal-year earnings of around $8.61 to $8.77 per share, well above its earlier forecast.
Second-quarter revenue rose about 13% to $6.26 billion. Management also gave an encouraging comparable-sales outlook for the second half of the year.
The results show consumers are still hunting for value as household budgets stay under pressure. That trend has generally favored off-price retailers. Ross stock jumped nearly 9% following the update.
Coinbase Rallies as Bitcoin Strengthens
Coinbase moved higher as Bitcoin continued its recovery and climbed to its strongest level since late May.
Robinhood and several other crypto-related stocks also gained ground.
The move reflects renewed appetite for risk assets after recent bond market turbulence. Optimism around potential U.S. cryptocurrency legislation has also provided support.
Coinbase is highly sensitive to Bitcoin prices because stronger crypto markets tend to increase trading volumes and retail participation, which feeds directly into transaction revenue.
UBS Raises S&P 500 Target to 8,100
UBS Global Wealth Management has raised its year-end S&P 500 target to 8,100, citing stronger-than-expected corporate earnings and confidence that profit growth can stay solid into 2027.
The upgrade follows a strong second-quarter earnings season. Corporate profitability has held up despite high interest rates, while AI investment continues to support growth across technology and infrastructure businesses.
Risks remain, including elevated bond yields, high valuations and geopolitical uncertainty. Still, UBS’s revised target reflects growing confidence that earnings can keep supporting the market near record levels.
Nvidia Earnings Become the Next Major AI Test
Nvidia’s August 26 earnings report is rapidly becoming the market’s most watched near-term event.
Expectations are high after another quarter of heavy AI infrastructure spending by tech companies and cloud providers.
Investors will focus on revenue growth, Blackwell chip demand, gross margins and the outlook for data-center spending.
Nvidia makes up roughly 7.6% of the S&P 500. Dozens of semiconductor, server and data-center stocks also trade partly on expectations for continued AI investment, making the results widely felt across the market.
Options markets are pricing in a move of around 5% following the report. Nvidia’s earnings could be one of the clearest signals yet of whether AI spending can continue to support the market’s current valuations.
