TLDR
- GameStop Q2 net sales expected at $780M-$800M, beating the $756.85M consensus estimate
- Operating income projected at $150M-$170M, more than double last year’s $66.4M
- Net income expected at $290M-$310M, up from $168.6M a year ago
- GME recorded ~$238M in gains from converting its eBay derivative into a direct equity stake
- GameStop revised its $1.4B convertible-note exchange to include 55.5M shares plus $358.4M cash
GameStop stock climbed in Monday pre-market trading after the company posted better-than-expected preliminary Q2 results for the quarter ended August 1, 2026.
The company guided Q2 net sales of $780M to $800M. That beat the Wall Street consensus of $756.85M, even though it came in well below the $972.2M reported in the same quarter last year.
The year-over-year revenue drop is largely down to the prior year’s Nintendo Switch 2 launch, planned store closures, and the sale of its France operations. Without those one-time tailwinds, the comparison was always going to look tough.

Despite the revenue decline, profit jumped sharply. Operating income is projected at $150M to $170M, up from $66.4M a year ago. Net income is expected in the range of $290M to $310M, versus $168.6M in Q2 2025.
A big chunk of that profit improvement came from GameStop’s eBay investment. The company converted its previously held eBay derivative position into a direct equity stake, booking roughly $238M in net gains in the process.
As of August 1, GameStop held approximately 43.4 million eBay shares with a fair value of around $4.947 billion. That’s a substantial position.
The eBay gains were partially offset by a loss of roughly $75M on digital assets and related receivables.
Cash Position and eBay Stake
Cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities are expected to come in at $5.05B to $5.07B. That’s down from $8.694B a year earlier, primarily because the company deployed cash to build its eBay stake.
Convertible Note Exchange Revised
GameStop also updated the terms of its planned $1.4 billion convertible-note exchange covering notes due in 2030 and 2032.
Under the revised deal, noteholders will receive approximately 55.5 million GameStop shares and $358.4 million in cash. The original agreement was structured entirely in shares.
The revised terms mean no additional shares beyond the 55.5 million already agreed will be issued. The transaction is expected to close around September 3.
After the exchange completes, approximately $2.8 billion in convertible notes will remain outstanding.
GameStop plans to release its full Q2 results on September 8, 2026. The complete report will include further detail on operational performance and financial position.
TipRanks AI Analyst gives GME an Outperform score of 71 out of 100, with a price target of $24, implying around 34% upside from current levels. The score reflects improved financials and free cash flow, though the technical picture still reads “Strong Sell” and execution risk around the note exchange remains a factor.
