TLDR
- Anthropic has agreed to a $35 billion cloud-computing deal with Lambda, a cloud provider backed by Nvidia
- Nvidia will hold the lease on the Texas data center being built by Hut 8 in Nueces County
- The deal follows Anthropic’s $45 billion agreement with Nscale and $50 billion deal with Fluidstack
- Nvidia has been using its financial resources to help non-investment-grade firms access its computing infrastructure
- Lambda is separately in talks to raise up to $3 billion at a valuation of $12 billion or more
Anthropic has signed a $35 billion cloud-computing deal with Lambda, a cloud provider backed by Nvidia. The agreement gives Anthropic access to a data center being developed in Nueces County, Texas.
ANTHROPIC SIGNS $35B CLOUD DEAL WITH NVIDIA-BACKED LAMBDA: WSJ$NVDA will supply the chips and is leasing the underlying 700MW Texas data-center campus from $HUT, while Lambda will provide the compute to Anthropic.

The data center is being built by Hut 8, a bitcoin miner and data center developer. Nvidia has signed a separate agreement with Hut 8 to secure the capacity and will hold the lease on the facility.
Lambda will use the Hut 8 data center to plug in chips bought from Nvidia, which is also one of Lambda’s investors. It is not yet clear how much Lambda will pay Nvidia for access to that space.
This deal is part of a broader effort by Anthropic to rapidly expand its computing capacity. The company hit a supply crunch earlier this year as demand for its products grew.
In recent weeks alone, Anthropic agreed to spend $45 billion to rent capacity from Nscale in West Virginia. It has also signed deals worth $50 billion with Fluidstack and $45 billion with SpaceX.
The Texas arrangement is a complex one. It shows how Nvidia is increasingly stepping in to help companies that do not have investment-grade credit access its expensive computing resources.
In July, Nvidia announced a program to offer credit support to cloud providers like Lambda in exchange for a share of their revenue. The company has since paused some deals under that program. It is unclear whether Lambda is required to share revenue from the Texas site with Nvidia.
Hut 8’s Role in the Deal
Hut 8 is also separately developing data centers for Anthropic that will house Google’s tensor processing units, which are a direct competitor to Nvidia chips. Google has provided financial guarantees to help Hut 8 raise debt for those projects.
In July, Hut 8 disclosed that a “high-investment-grade company” had signed 15-year leases for its entire 700-megawatt Texas campus. The company did not name the tenant at the time but said the $20 billion facility would support Nvidia chips.
Lambda has been growing quickly. The company raised more than $1.5 billion in a funding round in November last year and last year reached an agreement with Microsoft to deploy AI infrastructure powered by tens of thousands of Nvidia processors.
Lambda is now in talks to raise up to $3 billion more, at a valuation of $12 billion or higher.
Anthropic declined to comment on the deal. Nvidia, Lambda, and Hut 8 did not respond to requests for comment.
The Texas data center deal is the latest sign of how quickly Anthropic is locking up computing capacity to support its Claude AI products.
