Samsung Electronics (005930) stock moved about 1% on Tuesday. The move followed news that Samsung Group companies will invest $1 billion in a US AI infrastructure firm.
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., SMSD.L
The target is Helix Digital Infrastructure, a company backed by KKR & Co. Samsung Electronics and five affiliates are taking part in the deal.
Samsung Electronics will provide $500 million of the total. The rest comes from Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance.
Helix launched in June this year. It was created by KKR alongside the Kuwait Investment Authority, Nvidia and US power producer Vistra Corp.
The company started with more than $10 billion in committed long-term capital. That places it among the larger AI infrastructure ventures announced this year.
Helix is run by Adam Selipsky. He previously served as chief executive of Amazon Web Services.
Nvidia is listed as a strategic partner in the venture. Vistra holds the role of preferred power partner.
What Helix Does
Helix aims to line up the full range of infrastructure needed for large computing facilities. This covers data centers, power generation, transmission and fiber-optic networks.
The company points to power availability as a major bottleneck for AI growth. It plans to address this through direct investment and partnerships with energy developers.
This approach differs from a typical data center developer. Helix is trying to secure land, power and connections all at once, rather than one piece at a time.
Samsung’s Role Across the Deal
The investment ties together several Samsung businesses at once. Samsung Electronics supplies semiconductor solutions for data center hardware.
Its Device eXperience division adds cooling equipment through FläktGroup. Samsung acquired that cooling business in 2025.
Samsung C&T works as an engineering and construction contractor on data center and power projects. Samsung SDS designs and operates data centers and has moved into the GPU-as-a-service market.
Samsung SDI contributes uninterruptible power supplies and battery backup systems for data centers. The company said it plans to look into further opportunities in the sector.
Samsung framed the investment as support for global AI data center deployment. It said the deal lets its affiliates combine hardware, engineering, cooling and power capabilities around Helix.
The announcement came in a statement from Samsung on Tuesday. Other companies tied to the deal, including Nvidia and Vistra, also saw price moves that day.
