Revenue reached $19.95 billion, compared with the $17.53 billion forecast. A year ago, the company earned 35 cents per share on $5 billion in sales.
Beating Its Own Preview
On Oct. 20, Super Micro shared early numbers. It estimated revenue of $18.5 billion to $19.5 billion.
The final total landed above the top of that range. Gross margin also beat the preview.
Margin came in at 12.8%, versus the 12% to 12.5% flagged earlier. It was 9.3% a year ago.
Investors had been watching component costs closely heading into the report. Margins were one of the main items on the list.
CEO Charles Liang pointed to record revenue in the earnings release. He said the company’s shift into a “Total AI and IT Datacenter Solution provider” continues to accelerate.
Looking ahead, Super Micro expects Q2 adjusted earnings of $1.66 to $1.90 per share. It sees revenue of $19.5 billion to $21.5 billion.
Wall Street had been looking for $1.14 per share. Revenue estimates cited were $18.1 billion in one report and $16.35 billion in another.
A Rough Month Before the Report
The stock had slid 27% over the past month. Gartner issued a report saying 80% of neocloud companies would cease operations by 2030 due to weak returns on invested capital.
CoreWeave (CRWV) and Nebius (NBIS) dropped on that news. They are down 40% and 37% over the last month, and CoreWeave is a Super Micro customer.
Over the past 12 months, Super Micro stock has fallen 38%. Questions about profitability were behind much of that decline.
Tech investors have also grown nervous about the level of AI spending by Big Tech. Intel fell 29% last Friday to $65.58 after reporting mixed third-quarter results.
Super Micro stock gained 8.3% in after-hours trading Tuesday. In premarket Wednesday, it was up 7.65% at $33.79.
