It also marks the first time Anthropic has turned a profit. The company had previously said it did not expect to reach profitability before 2028.
Revenue also jumped from $4.73 billion in Q1 2026, showing how fast the business is growing quarter over quarter. The figures are still early estimates and could be revised.
Anthropic had told investors it was targeting a Q2 operating profit of $559 million on projected revenue of $10.9 billion. The actual results came in well above those targets.
IPO Plans Take Shape
Anthropic filed confidentially for an IPO in June and is working with Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and JPMorgan Chase on the listing. A market debut could come as early as October 2026.
Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao has been leading early meetings with prospective investors. Those meetings have stayed high-level, with no specific financial figures or valuation discussed yet.
Investors are still trying to figure out how to value Anthropic. The Financial Times recently reported the company could be worth $2 trillion or more. One investor quoted in the report put the number as high as $3 trillion.
In May, Anthropic raised $65 billion at a valuation of $965 billion, with an annualized revenue run rate of $47 billion at the time.
Projections and Competition
Anthropic has projected internal revenue of $190 billion to $200 billion by 2028. That figure is more than four times the $47 billion annualized run rate it disclosed in May.
Bankers and investors are using revenue multiples from 2028 forecasts to help price the IPO. Looking two years ahead is less common, but reflects how quickly the company is growing.
There is some precedent for this. Cerebras Systems used 2028 revenue expectations ahead of its IPO, and SpaceX used projections extending to 2029 before going public at a record valuation in June.
Anthropic has also surpassed OpenAI in both annual revenue and valuation in recent months. OpenAI’s annualized revenue run rate currently stands at around $25 billion, roughly half of Anthropic’s.
Both companies continue to spend heavily on AI infrastructure. That spending has put pressure on some tech stocks in recent months.
Anthropic’s IPO is shaping up to be one of the most watched market events of 2026, driven by its rapid revenue growth and ambitious long-term forecasts.
