Coinbase is in talks with Anthropic to gain access to Claude Mythos Preview, a restricted AI model built for advanced cybersecurity work, according to a report from The Information.
The outreach comes as crypto exchanges face growing pressure from AI-powered attack methods that are becoming harder to defend against.
Anthropic launched Project Glasswing in early April 2026. The program gives a limited group of partners access to Mythos for defensive cybersecurity purposes.
Founding partners include Amazon Web Services, Apple, Google, JPMorgan Chase, Microsoft, and Palo Alto Networks. More than 40 other organizations maintaining critical software also received access.
Anthropic committed $100 million in compute credits and $4 million to open-source security groups as part of the initiative.
During testing, Mythos identified thousands of previously unknown zero-day vulnerabilities. That included a 27-year-old flaw in OpenBSD and a 16-year-old bug in FFmpeg.
Those findings have caught the attention of major platforms like Coinbase, which already uses Claude for customer support across more than 100 regions.
Why Coinbase Is Paying Attention
Coinbase dealt with a serious insider breach in 2025. Overseas support agents were bribed by criminals, exposing personal data belonging to roughly 70,000 users.
The exchange refused a $20 million ransom demand and instead posted a matching bounty for information leading to arrests.
Anthropic’s own research has shown that AI agents can autonomously exploit smart contract vulnerabilities, generating millions in simulated stolen funds.
That kind of finding makes Mythos access look less like a nice-to-have and more like a practical tool for exchanges handling real money.
What Mythos Will Cost — and Who Can Get It
Mythos will not be made generally available. Anthropic plans to fold its capabilities into future Claude releases with stronger safeguards in place.
Post-preview pricing is set at $25 per million input tokens and $125 per million output tokens.
It is not yet confirmed whether Coinbase will secure formal Glasswing partnership status or any broader access to the model.
The talks are still ongoing, and no official agreement has been announced by either company.
