Coinbase has launched a set of tools that let businesses accept payments from AI agents using USDC, the US dollar stablecoin. The update rolled out this week for Coinbase Business users.

The payments run through the x402 protocol, a standard Coinbase developed and first introduced in May 2025. It allows stablecoin payments to be made over HTTP, meaning AI agents can pay for services the same way a person would use a credit card online.
Sid Coelho-Prabhu, Head of Coinbase Business, described it as building the checkout experience for the agentic economy. An agent can create its own wallet, read the documentation, and start transacting — no extra setup needed on the business side.
Payments are processed through Coinbase Payments and settled in USDC. Businesses don’t need to build anything custom to accept them.
AI Trading Tools Now Live for Users
Coinbase also rolled out AI trading tools for regular users. These let people set conditions in plain English — such as “buy ETH if it dips 5%” — and have an agent monitor markets and act automatically.
Users get a live order list that shows an agent’s open and active orders in real time, including status, price, and size. The tools use the same WebSocket market data that institutional trading desks rely on.
This gives everyday users access to a level of market monitoring that was previously harder to access without custom tools or technical knowledge.
Developers Get a New SDK
For developers, Coinbase released a new x402 software development kit through its Developer Platform. Builders can add x402 payment acceptance to any API, MCP server, or web service using just 3 lines of code.
This lowers the barrier for developers who want to build applications that work with AI agents making payments.
Coinbase pointed to growing demand, noting that agent-generated traffic on its Base documentation pages exceeded human traffic for the first time last month. The company said the internet’s financial infrastructure was built assuming a human would always be clicking — something it says no longer holds.
The rollout is part of a wider trend. Several payment companies and crypto exchanges are moving to position stablecoins as the financial layer for AI agents operating online.
Coinbase has not announced pricing details for the new business tools beyond what is handled through its existing Payments infrastructure.
