TLDR
- ICE has partnered with tZERO to develop infrastructure for its planned NYSE-affiliated tokenized securities platform.
- tZERO is expected to support digital transfer-agent and broker-dealer functions, subject to regulatory and technical approval.
- ICE will invest in tZERO’s latest financing round and license its portfolio of 103 blockchain patents.

- ICE is expanding its tokenization network after previously adding Securitize as a digital transfer agent for the planned platform.
Intercontinental Exchange is expanding its tokenization strategy through a new partnership with tZERO, a blockchain infrastructure company focused on regulated digital markets. The two firms will develop systems for tokenized securities trading, settlement, ownership records, and compliance on an upcoming NYSE-affiliated platform. The agreement adds another regulated technology provider as ICE prepares the market structure needed for blockchain-based securities.
tZERO Joins ICE Tokenized Securities Plan
ICE said tZERO will act as a design partner for the planned platform. The company is expected to become an approved digital transfer agent and participant, subject to regulatory and technical requirements. Its systems would support core functions behind the planned market.
The role would allow tZERO to track ownership changes in tokenized shares and support compliant transfers. ICE will also invest in tZERO’s latest financing round, although the companies did not disclose the size. The investment forms part of the broader commercial partnership.
As part of the agreement, ICE will license tZERO’s portfolio of 103 blockchain patents. The patents cover areas including compliant transfers, smart contracts, and corporate actions linked to blockchain-based securities.
The companies will also explore whether tokenized assets can support collateral management at ICE clearing houses and other affiliates. This could allow approved tokenized securities to back trades across parts of ICE’s wider market infrastructure.
NYSE Builds Wider Tokenization Network
ICE has already added other partners to its tokenization plans. In March, the company selected Securitize as a digital transfer agent for its planned NYSE-linked platform.
Securitize and tZERO are currently involved in a patent dispute. Securitize filed a lawsuit in June after tZERO sent a cease-and-desist letter over alleged patent infringement involving two products.
ICE has made several investments tied to blockchain and digital markets. The company invested $600 million in Polymarket in March after providing $1 billion last October. It also invested in crypto exchange OKX at a $25 billion valuation.
In May, ICE and OKX formed a 50-50 joint venture to develop infrastructure for tokenized and digitally native financial products. The firms later partnered on oil perpetual contracts.
The tZERO agreement adds another regulated infrastructure provider to ICE’s tokenization plans. Citi has estimated that the tokenized securities market could reach $5.5 trillion by 2030 as financial firms test blockchain-based trading and settlement systems.
