Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko said the network plans to release Alpenglow as soon as next quarter. He shared the timeline during a fireside panel at Consensus Miami 2026. He described the upgrade as a key step in Solana’s technical roadmap.
Solana Alpenglow Targets Faster Finality and Stronger Guarantees
Yakovenko confirmed that Solana Alpenglow could launch within the next quarter if development stays on track. He said, “The Alpenglow release is basically due sometime this year, I think next quarter.” He added that the team views the release as an important protocol milestone.
He explained that the upgrade focuses on improving confirmation speed and network predictability. He said Alpenglow aims to push transaction confirmations closer to the physical limits of data transmission. He told the audience that faster confirmations would improve reliability for developers and users.
Yakovenko stated that blockchains rely on distributed computers to agree on transaction order. However, he said network conditions can introduce delays and uncertainty. Therefore, Alpenglow seeks to tighten guarantees around timing and final settlement.
