Strategy (MSTR) is back buying bitcoin. The company picked up 4,603 coins between August 24 and 30 for $369.7 million, ending a roughly ten-week gap in purchases that had weighed on sentiment around the stock.
MSTR was up between 1% and 2% in pre-market trading on Monday after the news broke. Executive Chairman Michael Saylor signaled the return with a brief post on X, writing “We’re ₿ack” on Sunday before the official SEC 8-K filing dropped Monday morning.

The average purchase price came in at $80,318 per coin. That’s a slight premium to where bitcoin was trading at the time, around $78,280 to $78,400.
Strategy funded the buy through the sale of 4.53 million Class A common shares, raising $602.8 million in total. The $369.7 million went to bitcoin. The remaining proceeds were split between $151.8 million in buybacks of the company’s STRC preferred stock and additions to cash reserves.
A Ten-Week Selling Streak
The gap in buying wasn’t accidental. On June 29, 2026, Strategy’s board approved a Digital Credit Capital Framework, which for the first time authorized the company to sell bitcoin. That was a shift from the company’s long-held accumulation-only approach.
Over the following ten weeks, Strategy sold 6,948 BTC for $432.5 million. The proceeds went toward preferred-stock dividends and STRC repurchases. Bitfinex analysts described the sales as a “rounding error” against daily spot volumes, but the optics still hurt. The fact that the market’s most publicly committed corporate bitcoin holder was selling became a recurring bearish talking point.
A two-week pause in sales toward the end of August started to clear that overhang before Monday’s announcement confirmed the return to buying.
Holdings and Cost Basis
Strategy now holds 845,050 bitcoin at a total cost of $63.73 billion. The blended average price across all purchases comes to $75,412 per coin.
The current total falls slightly short of the peak. The company held 847,363 BTC on June 21 before the selling period began.
Bitcoin was trading around $78,400 on Monday morning, up slightly from Friday’s close. Strategy’s most recent tranche was purchased at a premium to that level, meaning the position is currently underwater on the latest batch at current prices.
The 8-K filing and Saylor’s X post on Monday confirmed the purchases. No further details were given on the timeline or size of future acquisitions.
