World Liberty Financial, the crypto venture backed by President Donald Trump, is launching a buyback program for its WLFI governance token. The move comes after the token lost more than 60% of its value this year.
The announcement arrives during a hard week for Trump-linked assets. Two Trump-themed meme coins hit record lows, and Trump Media & Technology Group shares posted their lowest closing price.
The success of $USD1 and the growing WLFI ecosystem is helping us launch a new $WLFI token buyback program to strengthen the WLFI ecosystem and governance.

Several upcoming dates could shape what comes next. They include a holder dinner, a debt repayment deadline and the start of a new Congress.
World Liberty said on Thursday that the program will start with an initial allocation. That funding could come from revenue earned on reserves backing its USD1 stablecoin, along with other sources.
The company said the buyback is meant to get more holders involved in protocol governance. It also aims to give long-term investors more voting power.
World Liberty suggested that token repurchases could become a regular part of its strategy. Trump reportedly still holds billions of WLFI tokens.
WLFI has fallen about 10% since this week’s midterm elections, where Republicans did worse than expected. A November 22 gala dinner will bring together Trump and the token’s top 185 holders.
Democrats Take Control of Congress
Democrats won majorities in both the House and Senate in the November 3 midterm elections. Representative Robert Garcia, expected to lead the House Oversight Committee, has signaled the panel plans to examine the Trump family’s crypto dealings.
One likely focus is a reported $500 million investment in World Liberty by an Emirati royal. Senator Elizabeth Warren and four other Democrats called for hearings on that deal in June.
Warren is expected to chair the Senate Banking Committee in January 2027, though this is not final. In July, she and Senator Adam Schiff asked the SEC to investigate Trump Media’s Truth API, which gives trading firms early access to Trump’s posts.
Democrats gain new investigative powers when Congress convenes in January. Passing laws may be harder, since Trump can veto bills and an override needs two-thirds of both chambers.
Record Lows and a November 30 Deadline
The Official Trump token fell 22% this week to $1.20 after touching a record low of $1.12 on November 5. It now sits about 98.3% below its January 2025 peak of $73.43.

The Melania Meme token dropped 18.37% to $0.06176, after setting a new low of $0.05955. It has lost about 99.5% of its value since peaking at $13.05.
Trump Media shares fell 28.91% this week to close at $4.49. The stock was down another 10.47% from the prior day, trading at $4.02.
Wallets linked to Trump Media also moved about 4,259 Bitcoin, worth roughly $343.67 million, to Crypto.com. Onchain analytics firm Lookonchain first reported the transfer.
Arkham Intelligence linked the sending wallets to Bitcoin pledged as collateral for Trump Media’s convertible notes. A June 30 filing listed 4,260.73 Bitcoin as collateral for $1 billion in debt financing.
Holders of those notes can demand cash repayment on November 30, 2026. If they do, Trump Media could owe about $1 billion.
Trump Media has warned in a securities filing that it may need to sell Bitcoin or other digital assets if it cannot secure refinancing. For now, the transfer shows the coins moved to new wallets, but it does not confirm a sale.
