- Waymo announced plans to launch its first European robotaxi service in Munich by end of 2027.
- Analysts set a price target of $504.76 on GOOGL, implying roughly 50% upside from current levels.
- Q2 2026 EPS came in at $9.11 vs $3.04 expected, with Google Cloud revenue up 82% year over year.
Alphabet stock climbed 2.2% in pre-market trading on September 14, hitting $345.84, as several company-specific catalysts stacked up on the same day.
The move came as the company’s $0.22 quarterly cash dividend was paid out, with an ex-date of September 4 and a record date of September 7. Income-oriented investors tend to respond to dividend payment dates with incremental buying.
This happened against a weak broader market. The S&P 500 fell 0.6%, the Dow dropped 0.2%, and the Nasdaq slid 1.5%. The fact that Alphabet moved higher while the rest of the market sold off points to stock-specific buying pressure.
Google closed its acquisition of AI startup Mechanize for more than $1.5 billion, adding to its artificial intelligence infrastructure. The deal signals continued investment in AI capabilities at a time when competition in the space is intensifying.
Google has also been part of industry talks with Anthropic and OpenAI since July 2026 to build a formal AI testing and auditing standards body. That positions Alphabet as an active participant in AI governance discussions.
Waymo added another growth angle, announcing plans to launch its first commercial robotaxi service in Europe, targeting Munich by the end of 2027.
Blowout Q2 Results
Q2 2026 results gave investors plenty to work with. EPS came in at $9.11 against expectations of $3.04, on revenue of $119.80 billion, up 24.2% year over year.
Search grew 17%, YouTube ads rose 13%, and Google Cloud accelerated to 82% growth. The Cloud backlog reached $514 billion, with management expecting to convert more than 50% of that into revenue within 24 months.
Gemini Enterprise is now used by nearly 90% of Fortune 100 companies, and the Gemini app reached 950 million monthly active users.
Valuation Gap vs Peers
Analysts at 24/7 Wall St. set a price target of $504.76 on Alphabet, implying 50% upside from $341.33, with 90% confidence. The bull case lands at $569.14, while the bear case still implies 24% upside at $417.07.
The valuation argument is straightforward. Alphabet trades at a trailing P/E of 17, while Microsoft trades at 28 and Meta at 24. Alphabet is growing revenue faster than both.
There are risks. Alphabet burned negative $5.86 billion in Q2 free cash flow. Capital expenditure hit $44.92 billion in the quarter, with full-year CapEx guided at $175 billion to $185 billion. Long-term debt more than doubled to $98.2 billion and buybacks were suspended.
Trailing twelve-month operating cash flow of $185.7 billion remains well above CapEx levels, which analysts say comfortably funds the infrastructure build.
Alphabet is up 42.13% over the past year and 8.99% year to date as of September 14, 2026. The consensus among 62 analysts is a Buy rating, with 13 Strong Buys and 44 Buys.
