JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon publicly flagged concerns about Anthropic’s Mythos AI model this week, saying the risks it poses are a “real issue” that the U.S. government is now actively addressing.

Dimon made the comments at Republican Senator Dave McCormick’s Pennsylvania Defense and Innovation Summit.
Dimon’s Warning
Dimon warned that giving widespread access to the model could be dangerous. He compared it to “giving ballistic missiles to individuals.”
His comments reflect growing unease in both government and financial circles about how advanced AI models should be distributed.
Anthropic released Mythos in April, initially to a select group of over 50 organizations, including Google, Microsoft, and Apple. JPMorgan was among that group.
The model is considered one of the most advanced AI systems for identifying cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Banks and tech firms have been drawn to it for its ability to find and fix software weaknesses quickly.
Government Steps In
In June, the U.S. government ordered Anthropic to restrict access to its top models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, to foreign nationals. The move was driven by national security concerns, including fears the technology could be exploited by military intelligence in China, Russia, or other countries.
Anthropic was forced to cut off worldwide access temporarily. The restrictions were later lifted after Anthropic put new safeguards in place.
The episode highlights how governments are stepping up oversight of powerful AI model releases.
Project Glasswing
Anthropic launched Project Glasswing alongside Mythos. The initiative is focused on defensive cybersecurity, using the AI to proactively scan and patch critical software vulnerabilities before they can be exploited.
Anthropic has since expanded the program to around 150 organizations. The company says its role is to help the software industry adapt and to move from just finding vulnerabilities to fixing and deploying patched software.
IPO on the Horizon
Anthropic is now preparing for a potential IPO as early as October. The company has hired Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and JPMorgan to lead the offering.
In May, Anthropic surpassed OpenAI as the world’s most valuable startup after a $65 billion Series H funding round valued the company at $965 billion. Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital led that round.
The company was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees and has grown quickly into one of the most closely watched names in AI.
Banks are currently arranging investor meetings ahead of the listing, though details remain subject to change.
