Fermi Inc. (FRMI) gained 8.66% to close at $6.65 after announcing the arrival of three Siemens Energy natural gas turbines. The equipment reached the Port of Houston before moving to the company’s Project Matador site near Amarillo, Texas. Meanwhile, the stock eased 1.05% to $6.58 during pre-market trading as the company continued advancing its large-scale energy project.
Siemens Turbines Advance Project Matador Buildout
The latest shipment includes three Siemens Energy SGT6-5000F natural gas turbines. The turbines can generate up to 780 megawatts in simple-cycle operation. The delivery marks one of the largest equipment movements completed for Project Matador.
The turbines arrived at the Port of Houston before beginning transportation to the Texas Panhandle. Site preparation has already started to receive the equipment upon arrival. The company expects additional turbine deliveries as construction progresses.
Fermi stated that the shipment supports its strategy of bringing large-scale power online ahead of competing developments. The company continues securing major equipment before construction reaches critical stages. As a result, Project Matador remains on schedule for its planned expansion.
Construction Progress Continues Across Two Development Phases
Fermi recently selected Spanish engineering company TSK for early work on the second turbine phase. The company also appointed Primoris Services Corporation to complete balance-of-plant construction for six SGT-800 turbines. Therefore, two major construction phases now continue at the same time.
The company follows its internal FermiSpeed strategy to reduce delays between procurement and installation. It purchases long-lead equipment early while construction teams complete parallel site activities. Consequently, hardware reaches project locations when installation crews become ready.
Project Matador currently advances through phase one and phase two simultaneously. Phase one includes six Siemens SGT-800 turbines with supporting infrastructure under construction. Meanwhile, phase two focuses on installing the three newly delivered SGT6-5000F turbines.
Project Targets Gigawatt-Scale Power for AI Infrastructure
Each Siemens SGT6-5000F turbine produces up to 260 megawatts in simple-cycle mode. The units can increase output by up to 40 megawatts each minute. Furthermore, they can reach full operating capacity within about five minutes.
The company selected these turbines because they support rapid startup and flexible power generation. Their reported fleet reliability approaches 99% across the 60-hertz market. Therefore, the technology aligns with large computing facilities requiring dependable electricity supplies.
Project Matador covers approximately 7,570 acres through owned and long-term leased land in the Texas Panhandle. Fermi has invested more than $1.4 billion into site development. The company expects the project to reach approximately 1.5 gigawatts through 2027, subject to binding tenant agreements and commercial progress.
Fermi develops private electric grids designed to supply large-scale power for advanced computing facilities. Its long-term plan includes an 11-gigawatt private grid combining natural gas, nuclear energy, utility power, solar generation, and battery storage. Accordingly, the company aims to expand reliable energy capacity for growing AI infrastructure demand while matching future capital deployment with commercial milestones.
