Strategy (MSTR) stock rose about 7% in Monday premarket trading, reaching roughly $164 after closing Friday at $153.92. Bitcoin’s latest rally was the main market backdrop, with the cryptocurrency trading above $85,000.
Bitcoin traded as high as $85,166 on Monday, its highest level since Jan. 29. The cryptocurrency was up more than 5% over 24 hours and has now risen in four of the past five sessions.
The move extended a recovery that began after Bitcoin traded near $75,000 on Sept. 15. It moved back above $80,000 on Friday before pushing through $85,000 Monday.

Strategy also gave investors a fresh company-specific catalyst. The Bitcoin treasury company disclosed that it returned to buying the cryptocurrency after a pause of roughly three weeks.
Strategy Buys Another 950 Bitcoin
Strategy purchased 950 BTC between Sept. 14 and Sept. 20 for approximately $75.7 million. The average purchase price was $79,670 per Bitcoin, including fees and expenses.
The transaction lifted Strategy’s total holdings to 846,000 BTC. Those coins were acquired for an aggregate cost of around $63.8 billion at an average price of $75,416.
At Bitcoin’s Monday price near $85,000, that position was worth roughly $72 billion. Strategy therefore held paper gains of more than $8 billion on its Bitcoin position at those market levels.
The purchase was funded with USD Cash rather than new common-stock issuance. Strategy did not sell any MSTR units through its at-the-market program during the week.
Strategy also repurchased about 1.77 million STRC preferred units for $174 million. It ended the period with around $5.04 billion in its USD Reserve and $1.05 billion in USD Cash.
Bitcoin Rally Lifts Crypto Stocks
Bitcoin’s move also lifted other crypto-linked equities before Monday’s opening bell. Coinbase rose about 5.3%, while Robinhood gained roughly 5%.
Strategy had already climbed 16.4% last week before Monday’s premarket move. The stock finished Friday at $153.92 after Bitcoin rose about 5.3% over the same weekly period.
The broader Bitcoin rally has continued despite the recent collapse of the Clarity Act and a Federal Reserve rate increase. Recent regulatory developments have included temporary SEC exemptions aimed at making some tokenized-stock trading easier.
Short covering has also accompanied the move. CoinGlass data cited by The Block showed more than $750 million in crypto liquidations over 24 hours, including about $648 million in short positions.
Bitcoin remains below its October 2025 record near $126,000 despite Monday’s eight-month high. It was still around 33% below that peak at the latest quoted levels.
The latest confirmed Strategy filing now puts its Bitcoin balance at 846,000 BTC after its first purchase since late August. The company also retains more than $6 billion across its USD Reserve and USD Cash balances.
