The firm is working toward an initial public offering in Hong Kong. The listing is expected to happen in the first quarter of 2027.
Early meetings with investors could start as soon as this month. These sessions are meant to gauge interest before the formal IPO process begins.
Moonshot is considering raising up to $5 billion through the offering. That would make it one of the larger tech listings in Hong Kong next year.
Rapid Rise In Valuation
The company’s valuation has grown quickly over the past few months. A funding round earlier this summer had valued Moonshot at $31.5 billion.
Moonshot’s annual recurring revenue is also climbing. The company reported $300 million in annual recurring revenue back in June.
That figure is expected to reach $1 billion currently, and then rise further to $2 billion by December. The growth reflects strong demand for the company’s AI products.
Moonshot gained wide attention in July after releasing its Kimi K3 model. The open model performed well against systems built by OpenAI and Anthropic on several benchmarks.
The company was founded in early 2023 by Yang Zhilin, a former Tsinghua University professor. He previously worked at Meta Platforms and Google.
Backers of the company include Alibaba Group Holding, Tencent Holdings, and 5Y Capital. These investors have supported Moonshot through its earlier funding stages.
Banks Involved And Regulatory Questions
Bank of America has been named as the overall coordinator for the IPO. CICC, Deutsche Bank, and Goldman Sachs are serving as sponsor banks.
Moonshot has filed confidentially for the listing, according to people familiar with the matter. The exact timing of the IPO could still change as talks continue.
Chinese regulators have opened a data security investigation into Moonshot and DeepSeek. It is not yet clear how this probe could affect the IPO timeline or valuation.
Moonshot has not responded to requests for comment. The company’s offices were closed for a Chinese public holiday when the news broke.
The planned listing comes as other Chinese AI companies have also gone public this year. Investors are watching the sector closely as more firms seek funding through stock listings.
If the IPO proceeds as planned, Moonshot would become one of the largest AI companies to list in Hong Kong. The final funding amount and share price will be set closer to the listing date.
