EPS was $0.51, below the $0.55 consensus. Net income fell 14% to $476 million.
Crypto revenue falls, but beats forecasts
Crypto transaction revenue dropped 55% to $120 million, down from about $267 million a year ago. Wall Street had expected $114.1 million, so the number still topped forecasts.
Crypto now makes up just 8.4% of total revenue. A year ago it was about 21%.
Customers traded less crypto than a year earlier. Total volume fell 38% to $50 billion.
The Robinhood app handled $21 billion of that, down 48%. Bitstamp handled $29 billion, down 28%.
Compared with the second quarter, the picture looks a bit better. The Block reported volume rose 23% from Q2 to $49.8 billion.
Crypto revenue also rose 20% from the previous quarter. That includes $26 million from Robinhood Chain, which launched on mainnet July 1.
Without the chain, crypto transaction revenue fell 6% from Q2 to $94 million. So the quarterly gain came from the new network.
Other businesses carry the quarter
Prediction markets were the standout. Event contracts generated $173 million, up 11% from Q2 and more than six times last year’s level. That includes $28 million from Rothera, the exchange Robinhood runs with Susquehanna.
Options revenue rose 31% to $399 million. Equities revenue climbed 41% to $121 million.
Robinhood Chain processed more than $80 billion in decentralized exchange volume. It also generated over $50 million in chain fees in its first quarter.
Those fees are not the same as reported crypto transaction revenue. The company did not say how much of the chain fees it counted as revenue.
For now, the after-hours move is the latest data point. HOOD sat near $89 as trading closed out the session, down about 5% to 6% from Tuesday’s close.
