Retail and institutional customers can now reach RLUSD through Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Exchange and the Coinbase retail app. This gives both everyday users and large firms a way to trade it.
Customers can convert U.S. dollars and other supported dollar-denominated stablecoins into RLUSD at a 1:1 ratio. Deposits and withdrawals are supported on the XRP Ledger, Ethereum and Coinbase’s Base network.
Support for Coinbase Global Exchange customers is expected to follow. That includes the option to use RLUSD as collateral.
Ripple said it will provide liquidity to support RLUSD growth on the Base network. This is meant to help the stablecoin work smoothly there.
What Executives Said
Brett Tejpaul, Co-CEO of Coinbase Institutional, said institutions want access to a full range of payment options. He said they also want the execution, settlement and custody they already use.
Tejpaul called the move another step toward the “everything exchange.” He described it as one venue where clients pick the assets that fit their strategy.
Jack McDonald, SVP of Stablecoins at Ripple, said institutional demand for compliant, high-quality stablecoins is clear. He said the challenge is making them available on platforms institutions already trust.
McDonald said the Coinbase partnership brings RLUSD to the largest institutional client base in the U.S. crypto market. He pointed to execution, settlement and custody in one place.
A Busy Week for Ripple
The launch comes during the Ripple Swell event. Ripple has made several announcements involving RLUSD this week.
On Monday, Ripple received final approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. The approval lets it launch a national trust bank and bring RLUSD under federal oversight.
A national trust bank would let Ripple custody reserves for its stablecoin. It could also expand its custody services.
Ripple also expanded its partnership with BNY. BNY will provide custody support for XRP and RLUSD, and the two will explore tokenized trade finance with C2FO.
Ripple and Robinhood expanded their partnership too. RLUSD will come to Robinhood’s retail and institutional businesses.
Earlier Wednesday, Moody’s gave RLUSD an A2 long-term deposit rating and a P-1 short-term deposit rating. The agency cited the credit quality and market value of the reserve assets.
RLUSD launched in December 2024. Ripple says it has now passed $2.6 billion in market capitalization.
