A SpaceX filing identifies the customer as “Customer B.” That customer contributed 34.5% of the company’s revenue for the quarter.
Anthropic’s payments now exceed those from the U.S. federal government. The government was previously SpaceX’s largest single customer.
Details of the computing contracts
Anthropic has agreed to spend as much as $120.5 billion on computing contracts with SpaceX. The deals run through 2029, according to Anthropic’s initial public offering disclosures.
That works out to about $3.1 billion per month. Payments start in December of this year.
The deals cover computing capacity at SpaceX data centers in Memphis, Tennessee. SpaceX is led by Elon Musk.
The contracts also include a cancellation option. Beginning in early 2027, Anthropic can end them with 90 days’ notice, Bloomberg reported.
SpaceX’s AI business and customer mix
SpaceX’s AI business turned profitable for the first time in the latest quarter. Bloomberg said this helped support Musk’s target of $100 billion in annualized revenue by the end of 2026.
SpaceX shares were down 0.92% at the time of the Investing.com report. The report said the numbers show the company’s growing reliance on AI computing contracts.
Anthropic filed an IPO prospectus this week. It showed that almost half of Anthropic’s revenue comes from Amazon, Google and Microsoft.
Investors have raised concerns that the AI industry relies on a small number of firms. They say a failure at one company could raise the risk of market instability.
Bridgewater addressed the issue in a note to clients. “Concentration and acceleration are also risky in their own right,” the firm said.
The note added that “more plain luck is needed to keep economies chugging.”
As of Friday, Anthropic is SpaceX’s biggest customer. It accounted for about a third of the company’s sales last quarter.
