TLDRs;
- Apple stock remained stable as investors weighed a crypto scam lawsuit against App Store security practices.
- Three users claim a fake Sparrow Wallet app caused more than $1.8 million in Bitcoin losses.
- Lawsuit accuses Apple of negligence while the company defends its strict app review procedures.
- Investors showed limited reaction as Apple faces renewed scrutiny over App Store protections.
Apple (AAPL) stock remained largely unchanged after the company was sued over an alleged cryptocurrency scam that appeared on its App Store. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, claims that a fake version of the Sparrow Wallet app led to losses exceeding $1.8 million in Bitcoin.
The limited market reaction suggested investors do not currently view the case as a significant threat to Apple’s broader business. While the lawsuit has raised fresh questions about App Store security, the company’s shares held steady as traders weighed the potential legal and financial impact.
Lawsuit Targets App Store Security
According to the complaint, three plaintiffs, James Ramirez, Christopher Ellis, and Jalen Delgado, downloaded what they believed was a legitimate cryptocurrency wallet application from the App Store.
The lawsuit states that Ramirez lost about $875,000 in Bitcoin, Ellis lost roughly $840,000, and Delgado lost around $120,000. Together, the alleged losses total more than $1.8 million.
The plaintiffs are seeking reimbursement, damages, and a jury trial. They are also asking for stronger warnings and disclosures about risks associated with applications distributed through Apple’s marketplace.
The complaint argues that Apple failed to adequately review and monitor apps while continuing to market the App Store as a safe and trusted platform for consumers.
Users Report Major Bitcoin Losses
The case has drawn attention because it involves an impersonation app rather than a direct breach of Apple’s systems. The plaintiffs claim the fake app copied the branding of Sparrow Wallet and convinced users to enter sensitive wallet information, ultimately resulting in the loss of their Bitcoin holdings.

The lawsuit also references comments from Sparrow creator Craig Raw, who has publicly stated that the real Sparrow Wallet has no official iOS version. The complaint argues that this should have made it easier to identify the app as fraudulent.
The allegations have renewed concerns about how quickly fake financial and cryptocurrency apps can appear on major digital marketplaces, even when users rely on those stores for security and authenticity.
Apple Defends Review Procedures
Apple rejected the allegations and said impersonation apps violate its App Store guidelines. The company stated that all apps are reviewed before being made available and that there are currently no Sparrow Wallet copycat apps on the store.
Apple also pointed to its broader enforcement efforts, saying it rejected more than 371,000 app submissions in 2025 because they copied other apps, were spam, or otherwise misled users. The company’s response highlights the challenge facing large technology platforms: maintaining an open ecosystem for developers while preventing increasingly sophisticated scams from reaching consumers.
For now, however, the market appears focused on Apple’s much larger drivers of growth, including iPhone demand, services revenue, and its expanding software ecosystem. The lawsuit may increase scrutiny of App Store security, but it has not yet shaken investor confidence in Apple’s overall business.
